We are the State University of New York's center for marine and atmospheric research, education, and public service. Currently, there are more than 500 undergraduate and graduate students and 90 faculty and staff from 16 different nations working together to better understand how our marine, terrestrial, and atmospheric environments function and are related to one another. Research at SoMAS explores solutions to a variety of issues facing the world today ranging from local problems affecting the area around Long Island to processes that are impacting the entire globe.

The Stony Brook Meteorology Club provides an environment in which Atmospheric Science majors in the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences and other students at Stony Brook University interested in weather can come together as a community. We take trips to weather conferences, TV broadcast stations, and the National Weather Service, which offer our club members exceptional opportunities for education, networking, future research, and internships. At the conferences, club ...members present their own research to build upon existing knowledge in the meteorological community. We also bring our knowledge to the Stony Brook community by providing student-made forecasts and useful weather facts to the public on social media. Members of the club also have opportunities within the Stony Brook School of Journalism.
The club meets once a week during the school year. If you are interested in joining us at a meeting, please let us know at sbuweather@gmail.com.
Additional information is also available on the SBU Weather Facebook page.
