About The Business:

"Preserving the past. Serving the future."

Description:

The Sands Point Preserve on the original Guggenheim Estate embodies the grandeur and elegance that define the Gold Coast period of the early 20th century, when prominent American families built great mansions on large estates as summer retreats along the Long Island Sound. Sands Point was the famed “East Egg” of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby.”

Today, the magnificent 216-acre park, including its historic mansions and the Phil Dejana Learning Center, is owned by Nassau County, NY, and is maintained and operated by the Sands Point Preserve Conservancy, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, formerly the Friends of the Sands Point Preserve. The Conservancy provides year-round educational and cultural programs, seasonal celebrations, mansion tours, fitness activities as well as private/corporate event services and film/TV location facilities.

Thanks to everyone who celebrated and supported the Conservancy's education programs at the amazingly beautiful White Party on August 8! On the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 lunar landing, White Party guests toured a special preview of "The Goddard Connection" exhibition, kicking off our tribute to Dr. Robert Goddard, the father of modern rocketry, whose inventions were underwritten by the former residents of Hempstead House: the Guggenheims. (This exhibition opens to all... Preserve visitors on August 31 in Castle Gould!) From Goddard's first dreams of space travel one hundred years ago to today's state-of-the-art virtual and augmented space travel, White Party guests experienced it all! The rain didn't dampen the excitement of the evening - just extended the cocktail hour to two hours... When the skies cleared, the farm-to-table feast in the rose garden was superb, thanks to Philip Stone Catering and these generous wine merchants who contributed outstanding wines: Empire Merchants: The Vice Napa Valley Selections & Tuquoise Life Beverage Brands; Fiama Wine Importers; Frederick Wildman Wines; and Winebrow Imports. We thank Senator Anna Kaplan, Assemblyman Anthony D’Urso, Nassau County Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton, Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth, ToNH Councilwoman Dina DeGiorgio, and ToNH Clerk Wayne Wink for attending the event. Special thanks to the wonderful educators whom we were so proud to honor: Hildur Palsdottir, David Jakim, and Antonia Fthenakis. And heartfelt thanks to the event co-chairs Elizabeth Boylan, Georgia DeYoung, Carly Elson, and Dilia Kamensky for making this year’s event even more wonderful than last!

The rocket technology that propelled Apollo 11 to the moon fifty years ago today was invented by Dr. Robert Goddard, whose genius was recognized and supported by the Guggenheim Foundation decades earlier. See the special exhibition preview of the Conservancy's tribute to Goddard at The White Party benefit for education programs on Thurs August 8. The exhibition moves to Castle Gould on August 15.

The Pups & Peeps walk to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention was a great success! In its third year, the community turn out (including their adorable dogs) was even more than expected. Congratulations to Wendi Fishbein Barbosa, her wonderful family, and all of the great volunteers for their work in support of this extremely important issue. SPP is honored to host this phenomenal event each year.
