Each spring, the Department of Marketing Department at UNL hosts the Mittelstaedt & Gentry Marketing Doctoral Symposium. Modeled after the Haring Symposium held annually at Indiana University, participant schools send representatives to Lincoln for a two-day Symposium emphasizing dissertation research.

Participant schools include the University of Arkansas, the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign, the University of Colorado, the University of Iowa, Iowa State University, the University of Kansas, Kansas State University, the University of Michigan, the University of Missouri, the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University, the University of Oregon, Texas Tech University, the University of Utah, the University of Arizona, Arizona State University, Washington State University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The Symposium starts with a welcome reception at the Van Brunt Visitors Center. All day Friday and Saturday morning, presentations of dissertation research are made by doctoral students, followed by comments from doctoral discussants and then by discussion from the audience as a whole. Friday evening there is a banquet, and the Symposium ends with lunch on Saturday. Participant schools are asked to pay for transportation to and from Lincoln and for lodging at the Embassy Suites. The UNL Marketing Department covers the cost of the meals and the Symposium proceedings. There is no registration fee.
