Wonderful service and has the local history and ambience to make the experience more rewarding. Fun 2+ hour canoe trip for the family. Salmon run makes it exciting!
Great place. A little of everything! People are great. Friendly and helpful in fishing, camping, sights & more. Ice cream is great too.
The river float is fantastic! We tube every summer. The system they have in place has you jumping through many hoops. This turned out to be a pretty stressful start, 8 of us were advised we had to meet with 4 different staff members, in four different areas before getting on to the shuttle. I am very happy they got rid of the video.
Three things to consider: 1.) If you have someone who can pick you up/drop you off, it might be less expensive (bring your own tube- strap it to the top of the car)also less stressful to enlist a friend to pick you up or shuttle you to a car once you reach the end at the beach. 2.) You have to pay for parking regardless. Either $5 to the township (if you can find an open spot) or $15 to the national park service. 3.) We had a guest with an inflatable cooler. They would not allow them to transport their cooler in their van or the inflatable cage trailer (they sell cooler floats). This seems like a decision that was made bc it looks good when you're number crunching. However, customer retention is much more lucrative. I can assure you, the revenue lost bc of a poor customer experience is much higher than their cooler float sales. i.e: When next summer rolls around, and a group of 8-15 customers who decide they will avoid the stressful hoop jumping and extra fees for coolers and float their own tubes for free.
The staff here were all very friendly, but the process they have for handling tubers is absolutely terrible. I made a reservation for our group of 13, we arrived early and we still had to wait in 3 lines and get the attention of multiple employees before we even were able to leave for the river, about 30 minutes after our scheduled time. My suggestion to the management here is to direct tube parties to meet your vehicles at the beach parking lot from the start. That way, we won't have to deal with all the traffic in your clearly under-sized, poorly laid out facility. Also, ditch the video that you try to show to everyone. It's not effective.
There are lots of snacks, souvenirs, ice cream, & water fun essentials. Friendly staff in red t-shirts are everywhere. There is a very big and clean deck with lots of seating. A great place to view the river canoeing, kayaking, boating & tubing people take off on their adventure.
Great staff and fair prices. We went at 7pm and had the river to ourselves for quite some time. Also saw the most beautiful sunset. Definitely recommend waiting till their last spot (make a reservation!!) for the least busy kayak trip.
This place rules! Everybody is and has always been extremely kind and accommodating. My Family has been coming here for almost two decades!
Great canoe trip. We go almost every year. Starts at road, passes through inland lake and finishes at lake Michigan.
Fun for the whole family! We go canoeing every time we go up north (Turtle Lake) and Riverside is where we rent the canoes from. Reasonable prices, helpful staff. The entire process is pretty streamlined. Everything is well ran.
I highly recommend this option for up north canoe and kayak trips. They have a nice store on location, and the start and ending points of the trip are wonderful. Recommend going during late October when the salmon are running.
We rented a tandem kayak in mid-June from here to do the river tour down to Lake Michigan. They have a shuttle to the parking lot, which is nice. The staff are very friendly and informative. They give you 2.5 hours to make the trip, which was plenty of time to take it easy and enjoy all the sights along the river. We were the only ones out there so it made it extra easy. The river is shallow and SUPER clear and it has a nice current for beginners. We saw tons of animals and there are a few rest areas along the way, too. Overall, we really enjoyed it and it's a great way to see the park! Plus, the camp store has everything you could ever need for your camping trip!
