This is one of the only vets in the state that performs dental x-rays. I have a Chihuahua with typical small dog dental issues and they were so wonderful. After his dental surgery the staff took turns carrying him around while he came to.

We bring my bearded dragon, Gibbs here. We see Dr. Carter and she is amazing! All of the staff are very helpful, super kind, and know what they are talking about. They care about you as a customer and love your pets like they are their own. Whether it is a great visit where all is great, or things are scary, the staff share that with you. Great place!!!

I had recently brought one of my cats to another Vet in the Bangor area and felt that it wasn't the worst thing ever, but because I had heard good things about River Road Vet, I wanted to give them a shot. This was probably one of the smartest things I have done in a while.
First, because I was starting to get worried about the well being of my animal, they worked with me to help find a closer date so they could see him. My cat Bojangles is a very shy fellow, but I was very impressed with how both the Vet Tech and lead Vet took to him. While they took him out back for diagnostic tests, they offered me basic refreshments such as a cup of coffee which I thought was a nice touch.
They were very transparent about billing info, and the decisions that led them to the diagnosis of my cat. I was also very impressed with the follow up text message that I received a week later to make sure he was getting better.
Really the complete package here, great customer service for both me and my furry friends.response / report this review -

Dr. Carter and her staff provide exceptional careespecially for exotics. Over the past 7 years I have brought 9 rabbits to River Road and we will not go elsewhere for regular veterinary care. Dr. Carter has diagnosed and treated several unusual conditions. She and the entire staff have genuinely cared about each of my bunnieswhether they were well or terribly ill and requiring emergency surgery. We are so very thankful for everyone at River Road and highly recommend them to anyone!!

I have used Dr Carter for years with my ferrets. The entire staff has always been caring, friendly and professional. We did run into a problem they felt could be better handled elsewhere, and they did refer me to Dr. Mit Chelly in Saco, 2.5 hours away. They also are careful and understanding of my financial limitations. I very much recommend them.

I have wanted to express my feeling and here it is black and white. I am from Caribou Me. and live 3+ hours away from this clinic. I have dealt with Vets my whole life but never have experienced a place like this. I don't mean to write a book but I feel the need to share my story. I have two bunnies that are the center of my life. They are my children. One is named Buggies and the other Munchie.. Munchie is one I rescued from an abusive situation and he is special needs. He has so many issue but that little angel loves life. They both do and they are totally dependent on one another. I had a wonderful Doctor in the Caribou area and I adore everyone in that clinic. Munchie took sick and for a whole week was being treated it was a total nightmare as everyday passed I was loosing him more there was almost nothing left. The local hospital here tried everything then I got the call after a week of doing everything that they felt it was over he could no longer be helped. I'll never forget the tears instantly flying down my face and I said if you feel you have done everything you can please help me who do you feel can help him God Bless their hearts they recommended River Road Veterinary Hospital. I called them on a Friday and had him there Saturday morning and keep in mind they were overbooked but they knew it was an emergency. I have never in my life met people with hearts and knowledge like they have. Believe it or not in that one day that they took him under their care the improvement began. He was diagnosed then the healing began. Ever since that day I have had emergencies with Buggies and it was the same instantly she was helped both of them always This is going to sound odd but I could actually feel the love in the room with them I have never in my life met such wonderful people with a heart and the love of or fir babies that they possess. It's so hard to explain but it was a first for me I am not kidding I adore these people so much if they would need a kidney they would get it A dear friend of mine from the Southern part of the state will be calling them tomorrow I just know they will give it their all!! They always do!!! I honestly don't have words powerful enough to thank them for everything they have done for me and my family We will always be eternally grateful!!! FOREVER!!! These people for the rest of my life will always have a special place in my heart!!! I don't think I know they are Angels!!!! I know its a lot to ask but I need a really big favor from them right now. 'PLEASE DON'T EVER CHANGE"!!!! Thank you with all my heart!!! Cathy from Caribou, Me. There are not enough words to express our love for Dr. Carter and River Road Vet. We have just recently (within the last year or so) lost two very special animals , a dog and a cat, and Dr. Carter took care of them as if they were her own. She and her staff are top-notch and the most compassionate, caring and loving group of individuals we have ever experienced at a veterinary clinic. Our dog Harley fought cancer with every bit of his heart and soul and when it was time to let him go Dr. Carter and staff made it the most comforting experience possible considering the circumstances. We will never forget all that they have done for us and should we get another pet, we know who will be our vet, RIVER ROAD VETERINARY HOSPITAL!!!! ♡♡♡

My experience with River Road Vet is the worst experience I have ever had with any type of company. Read this, because she will delete my post soon, just like she did my last review.
We brought in our guinea pig to River Road Vet because he had stopped eating. Dr. Carter told us this because he needed mouth surgery and the surgery would fix him. Knowing we were poor college students (easy to be taken advantage of), she told us it was WELL WORTH the $800 surgery ($300 of which we didn't even have the option to decide-- she just began operating when we first brought him in and then said it was going to take another $500 operation if we wanted him to live).
When the surgery DID NOT WORK, we continuously brought him back but Dr. Carter dismissed us (almost acting annoyed we were back) and said he would be fine. Sure enough, he died 3 weeks after the surgery--thanks to her prioritizing her profit over the life of our animal she worked.
In short, she doesn't care about the animals--just profit. Please go elsewhere if you have another option--especially if you don't have much money and can easily be taken advantage of like we did.response / report this review -

I have been bringing my pets, "extended family", to River Road since they opened in 2010. They are not only compassionate and caring for the care and well being of the animal, "extended family", but are compassionate and caring for the owners as well. The staff and Dr. Carter, whom I have worked with only because I do not have a dog, yet? but I have brought my beloved bunny Sebastian, who unfortunately is no longer with us, and my Queen of the home, Peanut, my kitty of almost 18 years. The other day I had brought Peanut to their facility because she was failing. Long story short, the staff shared their experiences of the same issues Peanut was experiencing and the outcome unfortunately is not favorable. Dr. Carter did not push for any decisions regarding what I was to do and encouraged me to take my time and trusted that I, as Peanuts person, would make the best decision. My pets and others who bring their loved ones to River Road are blessed to have such a facility and staff to care for all who go there for treatmentThank You to the staff at River Road for your dedication to make a difference in a pets "family members" life!!!
