Great place to go hiking. It's a little bit tougher of a hike. Especially if you go in the spring time. It starts to get a little muddy and bushy once the rain starts and everything begins to grow. It's still an amazing place though with a lot of great sights and beautiful views.

Great park to enjoy some time away from the city and relax! Lots of great wooded trails and plenty of picnic areas. The lake is great for kayaking and there is a small beach area for the kids to swim in the summer

Good place with woods all around. Great place for a day of hiking and trekking, lots of trails. There is a small lake for swimming and kayaking, we went to see the fall colors but it was totally green so missed it

I love this campground. Many camping spots available, both primitive and electric. Pretty clean showers with warm water. Neat hiking trails that will take you down to the beach and lake.

Large state park with hiking trails and a lake. The walking trails are not so challenging. The historic Frankfort Minerals Springs are certainly worth checking out and can be accessed by an easily walkable loop trail. The land was home to the Victorian-era Frankfort Mineral Springs Resort.

A great place for a picnic or relaxing day. There is a concession stand available but not all the time. The lake offers fishing, swimming, 🛶 kayak and canoe. There is a volleyball space available. The hills around have great trails for hiking. Bathrooms are available. At&t has poor signal.

I bring my kid here often to swim at the lake. It is beautiful. The park staff keeps the area clean and free of litter, and we do not have a problem with geese as we do at another nearby lake. There is a small creek past the left end of the swimming area that is perfect for wading and catching crayfish and salamanders. At the other end is a swingset. There are picnic benches on both ends and small charcoal grills near the creek. There is also concession open at certain times. Bathrooms, dressing rooms, and hot showers are centrally located. Beautiful, scenic, relaxing, easy to while away afternoons or entire days at this beautiful location.

Nice quiet campsites. Would definitely come again. Such beauty within an hour of Pittsburgh. My only complaint is poor signage as to where to buy ice and firewood- which are essential. This should be clearly marked at the entrance. Ice at the beach concession and fire at the boat rental BTW!! Or better yet, sell them at one site or multiple using the honor system like so many other PA- state parks do.
P.S. put your trash away at night- it is "Raccoon" State Park!!response / report this review -

I camped here for three nights. Very scenic, nice hiking trails, lovely lake, I was able to rent a kayak for an hour and it was only $10, the guys running the boat rental were very pleasant.
My camping experience wasn't so great. The site was a mud pit, I've gone to state and national parks in the past where they've move me to a different site due to condition, not this one, I actually got my car stuck in the mud. The previous campers had left plastic bottles and beer cans in the fire pit. I couldn't find anywhere to buy firewood or ice on-site, signage was terrible, signs were posted saying the beach concessions were open so I drove there (several miles) to find its closed during the week until mid June, so why are the open signs out?!?! The bathrooms at the campsite were not cleaned once in the four days I was there.
Some of the trailheads were difficult to get to and there's limited parking. On the plus side, I saw two bald eagles close up, so that was cool.response / report this review -

Nice hiking trails, quiet camping. There is no cell reception here but that's not a complaint from me. It is close to Pittsburgh and has a really nice lake.

Great park with a lot of hiking options. Two backpacking shelter/tent sites that are extremely cheap to use, along with a plethora of car and cabin style camping options.
Additionally the are 3 sites for organizations to rent for events and activities that are far less than private options.
Wildflower reserve is awesome, and there's an interesting mineral springs/waterfall to discover.
Beware the trails that allow horses when there's been rain, the mud is difficult, I've almost lost a boot to deep mud.
My only complaint is this location is lacking in day use area for children, only some swings at the beach, and a playground for camping users only.

Here's the scoop on fishing from shore..use Berkeley power bait. Yellow eggs and paste baits on a #10 hook. Focus on trout. Fish at night and you'll have the lake to yourself with the exception of me. Try watching a sunrise while cooking breakfast. This is one of the coolest little lakes around. I've caught large channel cats, big largemouths, walleye and musky. We have caught enough decent sized bluegills for a fish fry as well as black crappie. See you there!!
