Description

The Portside Restaurant has served Pacific Northwest-inspired steak and seafood entrees since the early 1960's. Then the Holiday House, the restaurant was well known for having the best seafood on the Oregon Coast. In 1977 the name was changed to the Trawler, but the high standards for quality remained. The name, the Portside Restaurant, was adopted in 1979. In 1983, the Tang family purchased the Portside Restaurant, continuing the tradition of fine, local dining. In order to improve and maintain the highest standards for quality ingredients, they purchased a fishing boat, the Portside I, to ensure delivery of the freshest seafood to the table. The Portside I delivered fresh crab, salmon, halibut, and bottom fish directly to the restaurant until June 2, 1986, when it sank one mile off the Charleston Bar in severe weather conditions. Subsequently, the restaurant left the daily delivery of fresh seafood to the fine local fishing fleet of Charleston Harbor. On October 5, 1993, a kitchen fire shut the restaurant down for a month, but the Portside Restaurant was rebuilt. Between 2012-2015, the Portside Restaurant hosted another restaurant, the Sushi Garden, within its walls, which was known for the best sushi in the region. Folks near and far return each year to experience what the Portside offers as they overlook a spectacular view and peruse the local history depicted on the Portside's walls. Come in to experience what the Portside Restaurant has to offer and welcome to the Portside family!
