Description

My name is Mark and I am an astronomer. Every summer, on weekend nights, I charter a whale watching boat out of Plymouth ( Captain John ). We cruise out about halfway to Provincetown to escape the light pollution. Many towns and cities have so much light pollution you cannot even see our Milky Way Galaxy on a summer night. Out this far in the ocean there are no mosquitoes or ticks. About 8 miles out we shut down the engines and float under the countless stars. The skies here, in the middle of Cape Cod Bay, are as dark as rural Vermont skies and the Milky Way, stars and meteors are amazing! We float for about 90 minutes and during that time on the top deck of the boat, I use a pointer to trace out the constellations, galaxies, planets, nebula, star clusters, satellites and much more! 2017 will be our 5th season! If you ever wanted to view the beautiful glow of the Milky Way Galaxy meandering across a star filled sky, you might want to check this out this September! South East Massachusetts has a lot of lights at night which washes out the glow of a billion stars from the center of the Milky Way Galaxy and makes viewing the Milky Way nearly impossible. My name is Mark and I am an astronomer. Every summer, on clear weekend nights, I charter a whale watching boat. We cruise out into the middle of Cape Cod Bay and turn off the engines and float under the countless stars. The skies here, in the middle of Cape Cod Bay, are as dark as rural Vermont skies and the stars, Milky Way Galaxy and meteors are amazing! Wide open skies and no mosquitoes makes this the ideal location! We float for about 90 minutes and during that time on the top deck of the boat while meteors are shooting across the sky, I use a light pointer to trace out the constellations, point to planets, nebula, star clusters, satellites and much more. Come enjoy an amazing evening under the stars! Follow the website link below to get information, dates and to make reservations. The cruise leaves from Plymouth, MA. Space is limited. Get your seat today before the cruises are full. The cost is $50 per person, payable when boarding the boat. Thanks! www.meteorcruise.com

If you ever wanted to view meteors this might be one of the best years to do so! Has a lot of lights at night which makes viewing meteors difficult. Most of the meteors are washed out from the cumulative effect of all the lights from cities and towns in South East Massachusetts.. My name is Mark and I am an astronomer. If you ever wanted to view the August Perseid Meteor Shower, this might be one of the best years to do so! Most of the South Shore of Massachusetts has a lot of light pollution which makes viewing Meteor Showers less than ideal. Most of the of the meteors are washed out from the cumulative effect of the lights from local towns and cities. My name is Mark and I am an astronomer.
