I had to take my cat Caramel to the vet clinic and ended up having to put him to sleep. Everyone in the clinic from the reception staff to the vet were so kind and thoughtful. Bringing me water to drink and offering their sympathy. I was so thankful I was able to hold him in my arms while he went to heaven. I went today to pick up him remains as I had him cremated and everything from the urn and paw print from the crematorium the clinic partners with was beautiful.
Thank you to the Pet Emergency Clinic of Pitt County for your kindness and graciousness during this difficult time.

Had to put my childhood dog down today, her name was Izzy. The workers their were so nice to us. They gave us ample time to spend with her before and after she was put down. I'm still a wreck from it but I am glad these people did it so well. Thank you to the people working their. You made something very hard a little bit easier.

My dog is an epileptic and started having seizure clusters. They took him back immediately and started an iv to give him meds. Dr Parker kept us informed every step of the way. She was caring and empathetic. Very patient. The entire staff was very caring and did their very best to take care of my little old man.

Pet Emergency Clinic of Pitt County is EXCEPTIONAL! My Kitty Kat started showing signs of distress around 6:00 on Good Friday. Of course, always the Friday of a holiday weekend!! I thank God for this compassionate pet emergency clinic. They calmed my fears and got my girl comfortable. My wait was extensive because they properly gave priority to the more emergent animals but I have nothing but the highest regard for them. The waiting room was clean and comfortable and they showed compassion to all. My girl came home on meds and is feeling much better. The vet and all the support staff were wonderful.

My Sheltie, Jet, was transferred from my regular vet to the Pet Emergency Clinic for an overnight stay for a possible obstruction. The vet did a great job of laying out her plan and then called during the night with an update. She explained everything that was going on and patiently answered my questions so I could make the best decision for my dog. Jet received great care from the entire staff and was transferred back to our normal vet in the morning. Jet avoided surgery and is doing so much better today. I am so thankful that this clinic is in place and able to provide quality after hours care for our pets.

I highly recommend the Pet Emergency Clinic of Pitt County. From the initial phone call to the ED evaluation and treatment, the department provided compassionate and professional service to my Lucy, a border collie mix. The phone attendant patiently listened to my dog’s history and medical concern; and advised for me to bring Lucy to the Emergency Department. Lucy was promptly evaluated and treated by the veterinarian, who explained Lucy’s medical problems and treatments. They answered all questions to our satisfaction. I was reassured that only muscle, and no tendon or bone, was exposed by the open wound on Lucy’s hind foot. This wound was cleaned, surgically repaired, and securely dressed that evening. Careful instructions and an IV bag turned to a “shoe” were provided to us. Lucy is currently improving quickly with the pain medication and antibiotic prescribed and provided prior to ED discharge. I am very happy that my furry baby is on the mend.

Thank you so much for your care, Pet Emergency Clinic of Pitt County!

    Sincerely,
    From Lucy and her mom

My 16.5 year old min pin, Jackson, was in severe distress when we brought him in at 3:30am yesterday morning. He had been suffering from congestive heart failure for quite some time that was controlled by medication. Yesterday, he suddenly went downhill and was struggling to breathe. The doctor at the hospital did all of the necessary life saving measures and tests, but after several hours he was still struggling in spite of her efforts. This episode was the third time in the last year this happened, but the other episodes were quickly resolved and we were able to take him home and he was fine. I would also add that he was deaf and almost completely blind. After several hours of him still struggling to breathe, my wife and I made the agonizing decision to have him euthanized. We couldn’t bear to see him suffering and we knew that more episodes were in the future. Although this seemed like the right thing to do, I am still struggling with our decision. The final event was calm as we held him and the doctor and support staff were so kind and comforting. I can’t say enough about how they handled this situation for us and we are so thankful.

My dog, Doug went into this clinic, where he has never gone, lethargic and close to death. Everyone, from the receptionist to the veterinarian were super nice and helpful. They genuinely cared about my dogs heath and well being. He had to stay overnight, they kept me informed as they said they would. All costs were gone over beforehand. The next day when I went to pick him up, he was doing so much better. The staff, even the following day were absolutely amazing. I hope we never end up at the emergency clinic again but I know if we ever do, I have no doubt this is where I would be taking him. I wish I could give them 10 stars! The staff deserves a huge thank you for just being your genuine selves and I appreciate you saving my dog more than you will ever know.

Exam room had not been cleaned. Dried blood on floor and lots of dog hair. I wiped up a spot and the towel was absolutely black. When was last time room was cleaned? Floor was washed? I left...will not return.

I was quite worried and it was Christmas Eve. My 10 year old Chihuahua had two seizures. We had moved 3 weeks before. I called and got great phone support. We arrived and within 10 minutes she was in and being cared for. The updates, while I waited in reception, were regular. The staff was readily available. Returning home while my Dog rested there was hard. They connected with my vet in Washington NC well. We have received good support. Dr. Kevin Jones was excellent.

Dr. Julie Uherka-Parker is absolutely wonderful as is most of the staff. The office manager/best technician (her words) is very rude and uncaring. Too much of a story to post here, but she has no business dealing with pet owners that are already upset about their sick pets. Having to take a pet in as an emergency is stressful enough without having to deal with arrogance. She's been given a little power and wields it well. All she could do was quote the rules, which I fully understood, but in our situation she made a calculation error and was unwilling to listen objectively. If my puppy hadn't been in need of surgery I would have "picked my puppy up and taken it somewhere else" as she recommended. I was told over and over how she was saving my puppy's life and I should be grateful instead of arguing over a deposit amount (which by the way I had already paid a portion of). You really should consider replacing her. Rude and obnoxious both times I've been there and not just to us. Rude to others too so it wasn't us provoking her.

Our experience with Dr. Sonja Szymeczek and her team with Points East/Pet Emergency Clinic has been nothing but amazing. Dr. Sonja is extremely knowledgeable, thorough and has a wonderful bedside manner. She does an excellent job of explaining options, risks and benefits. Everyone in the office has such a caring manner. They called often to check on our pet after his surgery. They took great care of our sweet dog and he is doing very well now. I highly recommend this great team of professionals!

My dog had surgery for a bowel obstruction. It was recommended that she be monitored through the night due to being in critical condition. We took her straight to the clinic. The doctor was very nice and explained what we should expect, etc. We were told that we would be called at any point during the night if she became worse. Upon picking her up my dog was "crashing", her BP was bottoming out. The most important thing would be to have her on constant IV fluids to prevent this from happening. Well they thought it would be a good idea to take her off her fluids at some point during the night... she was progressively getting worse and we were not informed. Fortunately we have a fantastic vet that began working on her immediately and stopped her from "crashing". I understand that she was in critical condition; but the lack of basic care and communication we experienced was unacceptable.

Let me just say that this is an emergency clinic from 7p to 7a. It is ran just like a human ER pretty much. Since dogs do not have insurance policies you do have to pay for the $100 ER visit upon walking in the door. They do an assessment to inform you of additional costs, which is fair enough. In an emergency you are at the mercy of the doctor / vet. You also expect professionalism, a determination of an appropriate course of action. In some cases they have the alternative to take a less expensive approach, and as a professional courtesy, should give you those options if they apply. A lot of times a cheaper and more affordable option is available. Surgeries are very expensive and should be the LAST ALTERNATIVE just like it is for HUMANS (with insurance).

Here's what happened when my dog's tibia was broken in two. There were no puncture wounds or tears in the skin, but the foot was hanging loose and it was obvious it was broken. I arrived at the emergency clinic at 8 pm. There were several people there with pets. There were a couple of patients in the back. There was one vet on duty and three staff. Before each service, I was informed of the cost and their reason for the action. So first they gave my dog an injection for pain. Then x-rays. At 11:30 pm, I was still waiting for the vet's assessment and recommendation. At 12 am, I had to leave for 15 minutes to get something to eat because my blood sugar was dropping (not their problem). At 1 am, I saw the vet and she recommended surgery. I questioned her about other alternatives. I was informed they could splint the leg and it would heal but not be as good as it was. My dog is 10 years old. I decided it would be best to NOT do the surgery and have the leg splinted. I got home at 1:30 am--tired and exhausted and nearly $400 in debt. My dog was given anti-inflammatory and pain meds to take home. She did great for two weeks. Then I noticed some chaffing at the top of the splint. It was time for follow up with my regular vet. Upon unwrapping the splint, the vet and I were taken back when we saw what looked like a chewed up leg. It was infected and looked horrible. Skin was torn and infected. It looked worse than when I took her to the emergency clinic.

First thing out of my vet's mouth, they put the splint directly on the leg without any padding (it was a plastic quick splint rear leg small size). The splint had rubbed against the skin, broken it, and infection set in. Horrible odor when the wrap was removed. He said he needed to show them (the vet clinic) so they wouldn't do it again (to another dog).

It took two weeks to clear the infection with antibiotics. One month into the proper splinting and infection gone, the leg is knitting together nicely. In fact, if my dog had her way, she would not be in the splint at all.

My intent is not to bath mouth the emergency clinic. But what they did was incorrect. I elected not to call them and tell them how to do their job. I knew it would not make any difference. I knew I wouldn't receive any compensation. I am writing this review after a month and a half has passed so it wouldn't be written in anger or contempt. I would use the clinic again in an emergency ONLY basis because there is no other option. I will express my concerns about this visit and how much it harmed my dog. I really have no words to described how I felt about my dog's infected leg due to GROSS negligence, and neither did my vet. If I had to make an educated guess, I think a tech may have wrapped the leg and the vet did not see it. Just a guess. Either way they didn't give my dog the care she deserved or that I paid for her to receive.

We have had a couple of experiences at this clinic, the first being about 3 years ago when our Brittany, Hannah, was first diagnosed with diabetes. Her blood sugar was over 500 & she was extremely ill & close to death. The staff was so wonderful & caring. They saved her life that night & gave us 3 more wonderful years with her. The most recent experience at the clinic is with our Lab, Bauer. He is currently seeing an orthopedic vet, Dr. Sonja Szymeczek, with the Points East Veterinary Specialty Hospital , within the emergency clinic. She is so kind & gentle & helping us with tendon tear in his hind leg. We are so fortunate to have such talented Veterinarians & staff in our area.

Our dog suffered a cluster seizure this afternoon, and since it was both a Sunday and the day before a holiday, were unable to see our dog's vet. In the hopes of having them run a few tests to look for abnormalities, we found that the only vet open was the Emergency Vet. We immediately called and were treated very unprofessionally over the phone - this should have given us a clue. We rushed across town so that we could get his blood drawn as quickly possible to be checked, only to be sat in the waiting room for over an hour. There were only two other animals in the waiting room, and one in the back. About 30 minutes into our wait, we asked the older woman sitting behind the counter when we would be seen - we received a disrespectful tone and an unhelpful answer. After a little over an hour in the waiting room, with our dog stabilized and his levels almost certainly back to normal, we decided that our money would be better spent with our regular vet, who at least treats us and our dog with respect and dignity.

In short, we were incredibly dissatisfied with our unfortunate visit to the Emergency Vet, and will never recommend nor step foot in it again.
