The child care center opened its doors on August 15, 1977 and became the first child care center at a VA facility. The center has grown over the years thanks to the wonderful families which we serve. These include FHCC employees, dependents of the staff and students of the Rosalind Franklin University, military families, and community members.
The teachers work hard to ensure that the classrooms are organized with developmentally appropriate materials to engage the children in fun and exciting learning activities according to the Illinois Early Learning Standards. Portfolios are kept in each classroom to document the learning that takes place for each child within the classroom.
PKKCCC has a long running, successful history thanks to the dedicated teachers. The teachers incorporate into their day all of the necessary elements to help children learn while having fun at the same time. Sample activities include art, music, science, dress up, outdoor play, reading, telling stories and block building for all age groups. Through lesson planning, the teachers are able to really individualize the learning each child needs to succeed and grow. Nutritious hot lunches and healthy snacks are served daily.
The center serves children ages 6 weeks through pre-kindergarten and is open 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. Anyone interested in child care services can contact the Paul K. Kennedy Child Care Center at 1-224-610-3896.
