A very nice, well-maintained state park! There’s several miles of trails, many of which are bike-accessible, as well as a campground and canoe launch (inner tubes and canoes are available for rental). Flush toilets and running water are available all over the park, which is also great.

Access is only $5 for a car, so it’s also a great price. Wonderful place for jogging, biking, and taking kids!

Explore old Florida at this expansive state park. Rent kayaks, walk well marked trails. Audio info stations along one of the shorter trails tells about the local flora and fauna.

Great park friendly staff. Sites have clear separation with good shade. The bathrooms are older but clean. The trails are located in the scrub with a healthy population of the threaten Florida Scrub Jays. A wonderful paved trail system runs through the park and the beach is a 10 minute drive away.

Beautiful trails, that are easy to hike. Offers several bathrooms throughout the park. Great campgrounds are well maintained and dog friendly. A great place to canoe or kayak. Several spots including a trail are wheelchair accessible. Fun for the whole family!

Usual well laid out small State Park lots of camping but mainly known for short local hikes
You could bring a dog on a leash and do the rounds in about an hour and a half or less. A nature center with information about the local animals is available.

The campsites weren't equal in size. If they were then some had more trees cleared out then others. The bathrooms were pretty well kept up and had hot showers. The location was about 15-20 minutes from Siesta key and there were closer beaches. The pond I would never let my child swim in, especially after reading the sign about it. The staff was friendly. Night time was pretty buggy and the bug spray didn't really help.

Open 24 hours for camping but the office is open during state park hours. Wonderful place for your kids. Swimming and hiking and kids programs thru out the year. Fun place to stay and have a day trip to canoe and swim and hike.

This state park is very nice. The amazing thing is the black water lagoon thru trees. Taking a kayak is just $10 and it is not very crowded. There are gator warning signs. The hike from the first picnic area to Lake Osprey is mostly shade, just a mile or so. There are many more longer trails of several miles and also a bike path. All for just $5 entrance fee. Taking a kayak is a bit spooky-water is pitch black and the thought of gators

We are camping with 7 & 9 year old boys. They love fishing, swimming, and riding their bikes. They can do all of that here.
We love the animals and our dog is welcomed here.
Though it poured rain we never saw puddles.
The boys made quick friends and had a blast.

Our favorite (local) state campground. Wi-Fi in the clubhouse near the spring fed lake with a very nice swimming area. Trails are great for walking or biking and the sites are very private. Some are even on the creek so set your fishing pole in and have a great time. Bathrooms and showers are very clean and the people are very nice and friendly.

This place is so beautiful. Such amazing trails to hike. If you get too hot you can even go for a swim at the lake!

This place was just about perfect. Only trouble is you better make reservations. We got lucky and were able to get a spot. Talking to the campers around us we found out they had made there reservations a year in advance. Very clean restrooms, nice shady campsites with picnic tables, fire ring, cloths line poles, ice and firewood available at park entrance. The staff was friendly and very helpful. Some of the sites back up to the canal, so you can launch your kayak or canoe right at your site. There are also plenty of hiking trails on the property. The Legacy Trail bike path is accessible at the back of the park. This is a old rail bed that has been paved and gives you the ability to travel to Sarasota or Venice. We spent 3 days here and would have stayed a week if time would have allowed us to. Beach was about a 30 min bike ride from campground. Definitely would recommend staying here!

Stayed here as camp hosts for almost 6 months and had a wonderful time exploring the trails and volunteering. The scenery was beautiful everyday. My kids loved being out side and playing in the lake. Wonderful staff who really care about their jobs and the people who visit the park. Couldn't have asked for a better place to call home for our short stay in the area.
