An amazing venue to say the least πΊπΈπΆπ
Highly recommend to do it at least once in your lifetime. We drove 5 hours to spend an amazing weekend.
I didn't skate but enjoyed watching others practice speed skating and the public skate.
This is a beautiful place to skate. We rented skates and the employee working there was very patient as we had to exchange skates to figure out the right size for each of us. The ice was great and everyone we encountered was very friendly!
Very nice facility considering it's age, friendly staff
Fun to see and imagine the roar of the crowd years ago
Great location for the Ironman triathlon
Huge oval area and side min rink area for youth pickup games.
Excellent place to ice skate and super reasonably priced. Got to do two hours before they Zamboni the ice. Not very crowded and a lot of fun with some pretty cool views.
Impressive how fast they go!
Skated there when I was a kid after the '80 Olympics, even though I was a terrible skater it is still a great memory.
We had lots of fun skating though I regret falling and being caught on camera. How embarrassing.
It's fun to share around in the winter but doesn't offer much in the summer.
The ticket seller, who happened to be a retired speed skater and currently is a speed skating coach, lent me his own speed skates (when he learned I was a former pro speed skater with no skates of my own). That was AMAZING! Especially since the rental facility at the oval only rents hockey and figure skates, and the shop across the street is closed a lot without giving any explanations, and anyways would only rent Zandstras, which are nothing like "real" speed skates.
The rink has public sessions, when everybody on hockey or figure skates is welcome. The ice is fine, although not the freshest.
It also has "speed skating" sessions, when one can skate on speed skates only. It is open to the members of the public as well as the pros, as long as you have the proper skates! (That part was not clear from the price lists etc.) And the ice during those is FRESH.
It's big. It's very cheap. It's pretty fun. But the rental skates are horrible. They look like they are from the first Olympics here, which were held we in 1932? I could feel the blade with my sole. So if you are planning to come you better have your own skates.
