This is such a spiritual place. Its history is explained on site. The live oaks are even more amazing and likely predate the structure. It is worth taking the time to find it and walk around the grounds and imagine the time of its origin and it's destruction.

Picturesque ruins in lush, green forest (ignore the spiders in the branches above and the mosquitoes everywhere, the view is totally worth it if you enjoy history!)

A great place to stretch your legs and see a cool attraction! It's so hauntingly beautiful! We went on a Sunday afternoon and there was about 15 people so not overly crowded which we liked.

I've lived in Charleston, SC since 1989 and still there is so much rich history I have yet to explore. Traveled out to the Sheldon Church ruins yesterday it was beautiful. I recommend big stray and a sunny day the light through the Moss. Draped tree's makes for both great pictures and big bites. Amazing to see this masterfully built piece of American history.

Lived in Charleston my entire life and finally went there yesterday for the first time. I captured the green glow and didnt even realize it until my husband showed me! I wondered why i couldnt get the photos to be as bright as all the rest of the pictures i took! Its amazing and beautiful! I do believe in the supernatural, but I went out there too capture the beauty of the building and left with much more!

If you love history, this is a must visit. Grounds are kept up good and the place looks as if it's been untouched since the burning. Parking is across the street, just a large open non paved area. Be careful as there's no signs, you'll pass it before you know it.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND WEARING *HEAVY* BUG SPRAY.
It's absolutely gorgeous, serene and sacred. But we weren't able to stay more than ten minutes sadly because our level of bug spray was definitely not enough. I got 19 mosquito bites on one leg. Would go again, but with long clothes and much much heavier bug spray.

I visited this spot during a big thunderstorm. One of the coolest experiences of my SC trip. The church ruins are amazing and surrounded by ancient gravestones. Love places like this.

Came here to find a virtual geocache June 2015. Absolutely incredible. It feels like something out of a movie and it's just amazing. Came in broad daylight. Very cool to see something that has been around since the nearly the beginning of modern civilization in North America. This is one of a kind, free, must see if you get the chance.
