    When saint Joseph church was founded in 1734, it was the only place in the British empire where Catholics may celebrate mass.

    The oldest Catholic church in Philadelphia, founded by the Jesuits in 1733. An historic and still lively parish, even while somewhat hidden from the street. Founded nearby St. Mary's on 4th Street.
