On March 29, 2019, The District Board of Trustees of Broward College formally installed Gregory Adam Haile, Esq., as the seventh president of the College during an investiture ceremony. In 1989, the Broward Community College Foundation announced the project to establish 30 Endowed Teaching Chairs in celebration of the college's 30th anniversary. The first chairs were awarded to faculty members in 1992. President Gregory Adam Haile, Esq. announced the awards to the winners during surprise classroom visits on Thursday, April 18. "It is essential for educators to master their field, but they must also strive to become proficient teachers and inspiring mentors who embrace innovation as the path to the future. With the support of philanthropic individuals, businesses, and foundations, our faculty are being empowered to develop their skills and find creative ways to engage students in the classroom." President Haile surprised seven faculty members with the Endowed Teaching Chair Awards on April 18, 2019. The program provides one-year grants of $10,000 to deserving faculty in support of professional development and projects to improve classroom excellence and efficiency. The chairs and faculty recipients were selected by a panel of their peers following an in-depth review. Join us in congratulating our seven award recipients.

On April 16, 2019, President Haile received a surprise from Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz in honor of the President's Investiture. Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz presented President Haile with a commemorative flag and an official statement provided by the Capitol:
“This is to certify that the accompanying flag was flown over the United States Capitol on March 29, 2019. At the request of the Honorable Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Member of Congress, this flag was flown for President Gregory Adam Haile, in commemoration of your investiture as the 7th President of Broward College.”

On April 9, 2019 Broward College held a farewell reception for North Campus President, Dr. Avis Proctor. The event, complete with a surprise performance from faculty celebrated Dr. Proctor's 18 years of service with our College. Dr. Proctor was selected as the next president of William Rainey Harper College in Palatine, Illinois. She officially assumes her new role on July 1, 2019, is Harper College’s first female and first African-American president. Congratulations!

Today, Broward College was recognized in an award ceremony in Washington, DC, as one of the top community colleges nationally in the 2019 Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence. Broward was honored for serving as a national exemplar in guided pathways work and for having strong transfer partnerships with four-year institutions.
Miami Dade, along with Indian River State College, won the 2019 Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence.
