This is the biggest and most popular park at Melvern. There is a swimming beach and reservable shelter, not in the campground area but it is within walking or biking distance. Near the end of the summer the swimming beach/pond area has been know to get high concentrations of blue-green algea, so pay attention to any signs posted. There are a few hiking trails and two playground areas in the Park a reservable pavilion. There are three sections of campgrounds, all have utility hookups but vary in the voltage and if sewage is available. Like the other parks, you can book online or call the Melvern Project Office.
Camping spaces have lots of room, the pond used to be good to fish from but this year it was full of dense moss making it hard.
We camp at the Melvern Outlet several times a year. It is one of our favorite places. Very relaxing. Also, enjoy going to the church service at the pavilion.
The 2017 Summer was a summer spent swimming at Lake Melvern. It is clean, well maintained, and a well kept secret. The volunteers made it safe and definitely worth the drive down from Topeka.
2017 Memorial Day weekend our family and friends came back to share the weekend with each other. We have all stayed at Melvern Outlet campground many times before. We mostly LOVE this place. Playgrounds close, hiking trails, paved trails, clean showers and in the past fishing from our campsite. This year the fishing in the pond was awful. a few perch were caught but the pond is so full of moss that nothing was biting. Please do something to change this Corps of Engineers. It is what brought us back year after year. Now, next Memorial day we are looking for other places to camp.
The swimming area is a great place to take a group swimming! Even has life vests if needed. Really Great Lake and very well kept!
Great place to camp. Very clean, staff does a great job with upkeep and maintenance. Campsite #25 is close to the water and has great views of the sunset.
Very clean lake, good lakeside beach, love how they have separate sections for swimming, kayaking, and larger boats. Great camping areas, which are very clean, well maintained, and with good trails and play areas for families. All around great experience.
The Outlet Pond is the campsite where Charlie and I camped and fished but mainly we loved the peaceful atmosphere. I will always have those special memories. Wish he was here to make more.
Beautiful!
It's alright. It has a sidewalk trail.
