About Nota Dolce Specialty Cookies
Hi there! I’m Kris Kendell, the Nota Dolce baker. I’m a self-taught home baker who loves experimenting with ingredients and creating one-of-a-kind cookies and bars.

I am wife, and a mother of two great kids, Nick and Alyssa. I am also a violinist (since I was 5 years old!) and I teach String Orchestra in the Davenport Schools, a former member of the Quad City Symphony Orchestra, a violinist in the String Arts Trio, and I also play electric violin in the Quad City rock band Identity Crisis.

I am assisted by my daughter, Alyssa, who is my Sugar Cookie Artist as well as my sales partner at Farmer’s Market, and my husband Darren, who is my “go-to” guy for creating any accessory that I might need, and also the muscle for assisting with loading and setting up at my cookie events.

How did this all start?
Honestly, I really can’t remember the exact moment when the idea of a cookie business popped into my head, but I will say that I started doing a lot of cookie baking while my kids were in high school when baked items were in demand for cast dinners, ice cream socials, silent auctions, etc. Additionally, it is a known fact that teachers are foodies. My colleagues and I are always baking and trying out new recipes, and then sharing them at work. At some point, I tried to talk one of my colleagues into opening a bakery. That was a bit much. My next idea was a food truck. Again, a bit too much. And then it occurred to me….Farmers’ Market would be the perfect fit for launching my cookie business! Since I teach, I have some time off in the summer, which works great with the Farmers’ Market schedule. Also, I can bake from home, which I love.

After I decided on trying a Farmers’ Market venue, I started thinking about a name and theme for my new cookie venture. I knew that I had to somehow connect my love of music with my love of baking and cookies. I came up with the Italian phrase, “Nota Dolce” (NO-ta DOL-chay), which means “Sweet Note”. Perfect.

Where to find us
This is our fourth year as a Saturday morning vendor at the Davenport Freight House Farmers’ Market (8 am-1 pm) in beautiful downtown Davenport on the Mississippi river front. We are in spots 39 and 40, near River Drive in the first row of vendors at the base of the ramp of the FHFM building. We have an easy to spot white canopy with the green polka dots!

I love creating my weekly cookie menu, trying out new cookie and bar recipes and ideas, and meeting new people and seeing friends who come to our booth on Saturdays for my delicious, homemade, one of a kind cookies and bars. Please stop by and try a cookie. We’d love to meet you!

Ordering Cookies and Bars
I do bake to order. When placing an order, please know that I need at least a two week notice and require a minimum of a dozen per variety of cookies/bars per order. Orders may be picked up at 5603 Marquette Street, Davenport, Iowa.
