We couldn’t be prouder of our #NYPLawrence team for going above and beyond for our patients and their families:

“I accompanied my husband to the ER a few nights ago. It was our second visit there in a short period of time for gallbladder stones. I want you to be aware that my husband had excellent care. The clinical care was very good, but the care was also compassionate. I need to comment on Carlos, RN, as he was so kind in his own serious way. You know what he did for me? ...I was obviously cold as I used a blanket as a shawl. He took me into a separate room, made me sit down, knelt down on the floor in front of me, put my feet on his lap and put warm socks on my feet. He used blue socks as it was obvious from my attire that blue is my favorite color. I was so moved by his kindness. I wasn’t the patient after all. What a special nurse. Acts like that are so rare today. The charge nurse was darling, too. May this journey of positivity be long-lived.” –Laura M. Hernandez, patient’s wife

We're proud to serve our neighborhood and are deeply committed to the communities where we live and work.

Our staff hosted a community service beautification event in Washington Heights this weekend, cleaning, painting and planting at The Armory, the Fort Washington Men’s Shelter, and Police Athletic League NYC.

Thanks to everyone who rolled up their sleeves and volunteered to help create a healthier environment for our neighbors! #NYPInYourCommunity

Donna Martell has been making a difference in the lives of patients at #NYPLawrence for over 50 years! Donna was the second Respiratory Therapist to join the #NYPLawrence team, and throughout her career has oversaw several different functions, including Respiratory Care and Pulmonary Function Testing, payroll and staff therapy. She has cared for both pediatric and adult patients the only way she knows how—with love, compassion and a friendly smile.

Donna was recently recogni...zed by #NYP leadership for her continued service to the hospital and our patients. “It was so nice to feel appreciated for the years I have given to #NYPLawrence,” Donna said. When she isn’t at the hospital, Donna enjoys playing golf, bowling, gardening and spending time with family. This year she became a grandma, and she and her husband are enjoying their new role as grandparents and special moments with their granddaughter!

Join us in thanking Donna for her ongoing commitment to our patients, and the communities we serve.

“I want people to know how amazing the entire hospital staff is, from the doctors, nurses, techs, food staff, janitorial staff, cleaning staff, they were all amazing and kept my family and I in good spirits, comfortable and well-informed with everything going on.

I was in NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/ Columbia University Irving Medical Center for 107 days following my second heart transplant. I coded twice and both times the hospital staff worked for hours to save me. They ...never gave up, even when one of the doctors told my family that when and if I woke up I could have brain trauma. Thankfully I woke up fine, and the staff kept my family at ease and stayed positive the entire time until I was awake. I'm very thankful everyone kept fighting for me.

The person that was my biggest motivator was nurse Gustavo Perez. He was always there for me whenever I started feeling depressed or anxious. We became very close friends. I consider him family, just like one of my brothers. We go on vacations, camping, attend birthday parties, holidays, and barbecues together. He is the reason I did the Bike New York TD Bank Five Boro Bike tour. When Gus asked me if I would do the tour with him, I asked him why. He told me because he knew we could finish it. He always believed in me when I was in the hospital, and still does to this day.

I feel we finished the 40 mile bike tour in good time without stopping or taking breaks in 3 1/2 hours. When I could see the finish line in sight, I had so many emotions going through my head. As I crossed the finish line I was crying because it was just so unbelievable how far I've come since being admitted into the hospital in April, 2018. There is a bond with all the friends I've made that will never go away.”—Stan Redner, #NYPTransplant Patient #TDFBBT
