This place is super abusive. If you haven't heard of Jason calder look him up now. If your daughter is here you should be sick to your stomach. The emotional abuse runs rampant here. This is a "break her down until she complies" type of program no matter how differently they try to paint themselves.
As for the response to my comment, there is no misunderstanding about you guys deleting hundreds of negative comments spanning several weeks when Jason Calder was found to be raping a girl at your center.
In response to the 'owner's' reply:
With all due respect, that is simply not true. I'm assuming that by 'part of the treatment team" you are referring to the fact that each girl gets feedback sheets from the treatment team (which are written without our knowledge and can contain either words of encouragement or news of being dropped which is decided ONLY by them. To be honest, I fail to see how the girls are 'part of the treatment team' when you are the ones that make the decisions without trying to work WITH the girls (even if a girl outright tells you that something isn't going to be effective and suggests coming up with an alternative solution.). Saying "Well, we decided that you're going to have to do xyz in order to get your leveland if you don't like it, tough." is a horrible method. The response being: "'You have failed to listen to MY needs and I am hurt that you made such a decision behind my back. For that reason, I cannot trust you with my treatment and I do not feel safe anymore.". I'll tell you all a story: I earned my level 4 and everything was great! I had good relationships with the other girls and the staff and I received nothing but positive feedback from Treatment Team. However, one day out of the blue, I was told that they decided to drop me from 4 to 2!!! By 'out of the blue' I mean zero warning signs. None. Nada. Now, I am the first person to admit if I make a mistake or behaved in some way that would cause this to happen, but God as my witness, I did NOTHING to deserve this. Nor did they provide an explanation, which made me even more angry. Now, please explain to me how this is 'including' me in Treatment Team?

I went here from 2009-2010. I can say with the upmost confidence that New Haven psychologically and emotionally destroyed me. In fact, I was diagnosed with PTSD shortly after I left. The entire experience was traumatizing and I ended up feeling brainwashed rather than treated. I was never allowed a chance contribute to my own treatment plan and was told to do things that i knew had no therapeutic benefit. In many ways, I almost felt like a circus lion being forced to preform degrading acts just for the amusement of the people around me. The clinical team treats the girls like they are cases and have on many occasions refused to provide any reasoning for context for the changes they make in your plan. For example, a girl in my house applied for a home pass (this is basically a permission slip that says that you can go home for a few days). Her therapist told her 'no' because "it didn't feel right". That's verbatim. They didn't give her a reason other than that one sentence, which is outrageous. They abuse the power they have. STAY AWAY or you will end up paying twice as more for trauma therapy.
I have tried over the last month to have someone return emails and phone calls in regards to having my daughter's transcripts sent to schools. Since you seem more responsive to negative reviews, I chose to contact you via here. Please respond with correct contact information in regards to New Haven school transcripts. Thanks.
There are aspects of New Haven that definitely weren't good for me, but it saved my life. Obviously you can never have a completely perfect staff as many reviews have pointed out but so many of the therapists and staff I there are the best people I've ever met, and are deeply committed to helping people. I've been to a few treatment centers and New Haven though flawed was by far the best.
New haven ruined my life. I was there 13 months and they kicked me out before I could sign myself out. Not even 6 months after coming home I caught 4 felony charges and ended up in jail. I never even felt the need to use drugs until I came back from New Haven. It ruined me emotionally and I didnt know how to cope. My therapist was fired maybe 6 month after I left for lying to parents and keeping girls there longer than they needed to be to earn more money. I don't know this is just my experience.
New Haven really knows what they are doing when it comes to healing girls and families. My time at New Haven was difficult at times but I never doubted the intentions of those who were in charge of my care. New Haven instilled in me values that I have carried over into my own family. I left New Haven 7 years ago and the impact and relationships are still holding strong. There were times I disagreed with staff members and my own therapist but that is to be expected when everyone is so passionate and invested in each other. I truly felt like everyone at New Haven wanted to see each of us succeed; from the grounds staff, the cooks, teachers, residential staff, admissions staff, therapists and those we had little interaction with. It was like being part of a family. I thank God for New Haven. I would not have the relationship I do with my parents and siblings if it I hadn't gone to a place that placed such emphasis on relationships. I give New Haven a lot of credit for the success of my marriage and the strong communication my husband and I have. New Haven not only saved my life and relationships but made them better than I thought possible.
I'm an alum of New Haven and spent a year there. The experience scarred me for life. We were under fed, there was no ac in the houses (in the summer in Utah it gets above 100 degrees), the house was full of flies, we were not provided medical care, myself and many others have suffered permanent physical problems due to the care (or lack thereof) that was provided to us, the animals were abused and neglected (one cat actually died while I was there), and the staff did not have the skills to be in a position of power over us. The therapists I've had since then have described what happened there as "like a cult" and "conversion therapy lite." I am a queer person and that was something they actively tried to change about me. There was no grievance procedure for the participants so there was no way for us to report the psychological, emotional, physical, and sexual abuse that occurred.
If you knew me while I was there DO NOT CONTACT ME
I have been with New Haven for almost 3 years and am so grateful to be a part of such a great program. I work with people who are invested in providing quality care and holding themselves to high standards. Working at New Haven I get to witness families come in, commited to healing and bettering their relationships, and I see first hand the incredible peace and love that begins to replace crisis and pain.
I have worked and volunteered at multiple programs and it is truly rare to find the kind of quality and sophistication that New Haven has.
I would recommend New Haven to all of my closest friends and family as either placement for their daughter and or employment for themselves.
New Haven was amazing. I got out 9 months ago and I am so thankful for all of the help the staff and my therapist gave me. There were definitely things that I believe new haven needs to work on, but for the most part it helped me greatly. Parents should be cautious to send a LGBT kid here because a lot of the staff have a very hard time separating their religious beliefs with the program. I am gay and this was definitely problematic for me because most of the staff were not supportive AT ALL if the girls were questioning their sexual orientation or if they were having challenges because they are ashamed of their sexuality. Other than that, New Haven was AMAZING. The staff were great and very helpful and supportive. I would highly recommend it because the groups, individual therapy, family therapy, and more helped aid my recovery so much. The other kids that were there were also soooo supportive. Even though I haven't seen them in 9 months, I still consider a lot of them some of my best friends. I don't know where I would be without New Haven and I am eternally grateful for everybody there. I actually miss New Haven so much because it was so amazing and I was so happy there for the first time in my life. Some of the staff and therapist there that were the best were my therapist Chris, one of the other therapists Brian, a staff Oscar, a staff Mary, the lead in my house (I was in Parks) named Claire, and so many others. One constructive thing about New Haven though was that there was such a high turnover rate and some of my favorite staff quit before I left. Some of those staff were Rachel Nealy, Mandy, Nicole, and more. But I do understand that New Haven can't totally control if staff quit or not Overall, New Haven was amazing and I am so thankful for it.
This facility is a cruel and unusual place to send a troubled young person. More often than not, girls who leave this place feel as though it was terribly traumatic, not helpful or healing. Please don't send your child here. There are far better ways to seek help for them.
Please take into account the bias of reviews by higher-level employees of New Haven.

This place has good and bad aspects. Parents please do careful research before you send your daughter here. It is NOT appropriate for students who are LGBT. The staff is not able to keep their religious views separate from how they treat students, regardless of how much they say they do. It personally helped me and my family's relationship tremendously. However it did NOT help in the other aspects for which I was admitted. The psychiatrist refused to listen to me re: medication. My therapist was later fired, though the executive staff refused to listen to my myriad complaints about him (inconsistency, untruthfulness, etc.) In short, treatment was forced UPON me rather than being something I chose for myself in collaboration with the staff.
I have a document that has a list of names of many staff members, nurses, teachers, head people that states who is licenses and who isn't. I have proof that traumatic things have happened there. I was emotionally, physically and sexually assaulted there. If I go to authorities they will have enough evidence to shut NH down.
