The Barrow Neurological Institute at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center is the world's largest dedicated neurosurgical center and a leader in neurosurgical training, research, and patient care. Under the directorship of Dr. Robert Spetzler, the institution's unique capabilities and achievements are recognized internationally.
The breadth of academic and clinical training at BNI is reflected by the number of patients worldwide who give us the opportunity to care for them. They receive their care in a 64-bed dedicated neurointensive care unit and 80-bed acute care unit. The Barrow operating theater is comprised of 11 dedicated ORs and 2 endovascular suites. Over 6,600 neurosurgical procedures are performed at BNI every year encompassing all subspecialties of neurosurgery. In addition, SJHMC is an accredited Level 1 trauma center and the BNI has recently expanded to the newly remodeled Phoenix Children's Hospital.
