Description

In a country of 9 million people, a quarter of a million are blind. The World Health Organization states has described South Sudan as a "vortex of the worst diseases on the planet." Diseases and conditions that result in vision problems are epidemic. Most of the people in this rural agrarian land do not have access to even the most basic health services. 80% of the health care is provided by foreign NGOs. We focus on "indigenous sustainable development rather than relief dependency". We do this by supporting the training of our South Sudanese staff to be health care workers and equipping them with the medicines and medical equipment they need to strengthen their own healthcare infrastructure. We are establishing "Vision Stations" where people can receive eye exams, quality eye glasses at affordable prices, and referrals for treatment of underlying diseases.
