See MoreCheck out adorable little Zeus!! He came to us unable to put weight on his back leg and after taking x-rays, we discovered he had a fractured tuber calcaneus bone (broken heel). Because this bone also serves as a connection point for the Achillesβ tendon, surgery was needed. Dr. Hicks took Zeus to surgery and placed a pin in the fractured bone. He also used a Tension Band Wire to provide stability as well as allow for range of motion after recovery. Surgery went well and abou...t 18 hours after the procedure, Zeus was able to stand, walk and wiggle his tail! As is customary with most of our orthopedic procedures, Zeus received pre and post-op Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber treatments along with IV fluids, pain medications and antibiotics. He gets to go home about 30 hours after surgery and will be back for weekly rechecks to monitor his healing progress. Good job Zeus!!

Handsome Thor was brought in after he became lethargic as well as had sudden GI upset earlier this week. After taking x-rays, we discovered an obvious foreign body inside of his GI tract. He was taken to surgery for an exploratory procedure where we found the entire plastic squeaker of a toy, approximately 1.5 inches in size! At that size, it would not have passed normally. Dr. Boatsman removed the squeaker and Thor spent a few days recovering in our ICU. He was able to stand normally less than 24 hours after surgery and walking at a normal pace 48 hours after surgery so he was able to go home at that point! Heβs a very curious boy and weβre glad he made a full recovery!

1. "Wonder what's going on with that dog over there!" 2. *sniff* "Oh gosh, oh gosh, oh gosh. Is that a treat?" 3. "Let me have a closer inspection."... 4. "Yes! I've trained these humans well!"
See MoreπΆπΆ Lucy is waiting at the door for her recheck visit to wrap up today so she can get back to her home! π She is a 6 year old Beagle mix that was referred to us in January by Harvest Hills Veterinary Hospital after experiencing some serious symptoms - sudden lethargy and bloodwork showed severe anemia. She immediately received a blood transfusion in our ICU to help her stabilize. Once she was feeling better, Dr. Lang, our Internal Medicine Specialist, performed a bone marrow ...biopsy (see the little racing stripe shaved areas on her back?) which revealed an autoimmune disorder. With that diagnosis, Lucy was able to return home with prescribed medications to counteract and fight the disorder. She is feeling MUCH better and now just visits us for bloodwork every few weeks to make sure her medication is continuing to help. We're so happy that Lucy is doing so well!! She is a lovable little girl ππ
See MoreWe had a super cute visitor today - Piper the Hedgehog!π¦ She is 2 years old and saw Dr. Ketz, Zoological Specialist, for her wellness check. Everything looked great/adorable and she was given a clean bill of health! She is the sweetest little girl!ππ
Boone, an American Pitbull Terrier, is celebrating his 1st birthday with us today!! πππ He has had to overcome quite a bit in his young life - he developed parvo as a puppy but was treated and healed. He developed into a healthy 110 pound love muffin. Boone lives on several acres and loves to play with the cows on the farm plus take plenty of naps. Happy Birthday Boone!! ππ
π₯π₯ Our post yesterday featured Indy who recently had a Royal Canin Genetic Health Analysis and we invited guesses for his breed makeup. Everyone ready to find out Indy's results?!π₯π₯
1) Collie (rough collie) 2) Chow Chow 3) White Swiss Shepherd... 4) American Staffordshire Terrier And finally a mixed breed that was not prevalent enough to identify
Who got at least 1 breed guess correct? Let us know what you think of his characteristics for those breeds identified above.
P.S. The Genetic Health Analysis not only identifies canine breeds, it also checks for OVER 200 genetic conditions and mutations as well as gives ideal weight/size so its very useful for planning for your furbaby's future!!

Cute little Indy πΎ is a Service Dog-In-Training and recently had a Royal Canin Genetic Health Analysis done to identify any potential genetic issues as well as find out his breed makeup. ππ OMG! β€ Shilo, 13 week old Australian Shepherd mix, came in with his new owner(pictured) for puppy vaccines. He was recently adopted from Bella SPCA and is so happy to have found his forever home! This sweet baby was extremely popular with our staff - who can resist his cute face?!
π± Koi, a 12 year old Domestic Shorthair, is staying with us in ICU while we try to determine the cause of his vomiting. He has been previously diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Disease but is having a few other symptoms as well that could point to a secondary issue. Koi's main goal right now is to convince a human that he will be a πΌ perfect angel if his door is opened...but we know his real motivation is investigating and possibly eating a spiderweb he sees outside π€π
We're so happy to have helped Enzo! β€
#Repost @dogfriendlyokc (@get_repost) γ»γ»γ» On Sunday evening, Enzo started limping out of no where on his daily walk. It was super unusual and persisted much longer than if he had just done something very superficial. So what do you do? We had to hit the emergency vet which can be pricey. But we found @neelvet and they donβt charge an emergency fee! They provided excellent care and helped to get the long black splinter out of Enzoβs paw pad. The care was amazing and Iβm so glad to have found them!
Mister Sarge, 9 year old Labrador, was a pretty naughty boy yesterday - he gulped down 4 pounds of uncooked rice!! As you can see in his radiograph, his stomach was bulging and he did not feel good at all. Thankfully, his GI tract allowed for the food's safe passage overnight and into today so he is much better now! He is recieving IV fluids, ICU care and multiple xrays to make sure everything is moving along normally again. Sarge is so lovable and such a sweet boy! β€β€
Jager, a 12.5 year old Rottweiler/Boxer mix, had his 1st Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber treatment today and did very well! Over the past few months, his family has noticed several cognitive symptoms developing - wandering in the middle of the night into unused rooms, not backing up/moving when a person opens door for him, urinating while walking/without noticing, and barking at nothing inside house. His mom recognized these behaviors as issues because they are not normal for Jager.... With our success using the hyperbaric chamber for other neurological symptoms, we are looking for signs of improvement or to at least slow down the development of other signs. To start, Jager will get 3 treatments each week for several weeks and his family will track his behavior using a chart - then we can increase or decrease the number of sessions depending on his progress. He is such a good boy and we want help him live the best life possible!
