Not much to add. If you want to see Elk go in winter. In summer they are up in the hills.

Winter is the best time to see one of the largest elk herds in the world. Elk migrate from as far away as Yellowstone national park to spend the winter on the national elk refuge.

Beautiful drive through the park. Didn't get to see any Elk. Perhaps wrong time of the year or just unlucky on that day. In any case, we enjoyed the drive. There is an off-road driving trails for camping in the forest.

A beautiful place to camp! Amazing views of the Tetons. Magical! I'll definitely be back. Would have stayed longer, but there are employees of Jackson that need the area to camp while they are working in town. At least that's what the ranger told me. Sad they don't have enough affordable housing for seasonal workers, but I guess that's seems to be the direction most similar towns are going. Hope it changes.
The visitor center was lovely.

Wide open plains with beautiful hills to mountains. Arrived in June so not much of herds grazing. But still amazing.

Used to run here every day and loved seeing the elk, wolves and Big Horn Sheep. In the winter time the horse drawn sleigh rides are pretty fun to.

Absolutely beautiful country. It was very green in late June, no elk, but a great drive. It does turn to gravel and there can be locals that drive fast on the road. I had to pull over several times to let others go by or was passed before I could pull over. Great spot for pictures and a drive.

Be sure that you check road conditions before you come here. They keep most of the animals in the refuge till April and let them go free to herd. There is sleigh rides during winter. All in all a good place to bike or a quick drive through while you are in Jackson.

So much fun and very educational. We paid $20 to do the cart ride thru the refuge and got pretty close to the elks. The ride was 1 hour long and our guide was very nice and informative. Told us also about the migration patterns and the history of the land. It was a bumpy ride but fun and interesting.
