The purposes of the Murray & Agnes Seasongood Good Government Foundation are as follows:

The Foundation is an instrumentality of the Citizens Forum on Self Government/National Municipal League. The Foundation was founded by the Seasongoods "for the furtherance of good government, with specific emphasis on good local government." They gave broad direction to the Board of Trustees in the uses of the Foundation, so long as they were "exclusively for charitable, scientific, literacy, or educational purposes."

The Board currently sees this charge being implemented in the following program areas:
1. Education
2. Governmental Processes
3. Research and Writing
