Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room is a wonderful restaurant located in Historic Savannah. The food is delicious served Family Style. There is Fried Chicken, Ribs, hot rolls and every conceivable vegetable including creamed corn, mashed and sweet potatoes, cabbage, Mac and Cheese, rice, collard greens etc. There are no reservations, but the wait is worth it. We sat at a communal table. Everyone is friendly. Mrs. Wilke's Granddaughter now run the restaurant. She spoke to us personally and posed for a photo. Love this historic place. Note: Cash Only!

Always eat here when visiting Savannah. Lines are often long waiting to eat great home cooking served family still. Not uncommon to enjoy meals with complete strangers, but enjoyable to meet people. Opens at 11am, get there early to avoid the long waiting line. Very popular and we'll worth waiting in line. If you leave hungry, that would be your fault. Fried chicken is their specialty. All you can eat.

My wife and I stopped there a couple weeks ago. The wait was only about 20 minutes which I'm told is a short line. That makes sense because I would definitely wait an hour to get in there. The fried chicken was heavenly and I think I counted 22 other side dishes. Somehow each bite was better than the last.

[Warning: young adults from Central Florida here for just a visit] Remember, there’s no reservations, and THEY ONLY TAKE CASH. We arrived about 40 minutes before closing time and only had to wait in line for 35 minutes. There was SO MUCH FOOD AVAILABLE; I only took about 3 spoonfuls of each dish available with the intention of getting more if I liked it… I ended up being TOO FULL IN THE END to do that. Many of the dishes are what I expect from a Southern Thanksgiving. The STANDOUTS WERE THE FRIED CHICKEN (crispy, light, and never got soggy as time wore on), corn bread, and peach cobbler. I can’t justify whether the food was worth the price tag, however, this was a VERY UNIQUE DINING EXPERIENCE (it’s actually not bad sitting next to strangers) with the ability to taste a huge variety of home-cooking, so that alone can make this worth it.

This place is a very popular tourist spot. The food is really good - literal family style. CASH ONLY. Last time I checked it was $22 per person - not sure about kids.

This is a small place and the line usually starts about 1 1/2 - 2 hours before it actually opens; rain or shine, hot or cold. You will wait if you're not early.

You are seated at tables that hold 8 - 10 people. Whether you're a party of 2 or 5, you will be seated with strangers, but think of it as a nice way to meet new people. When you get seated, the table is already set and covered with plates and bowls full of food. All you have to order is your beverage. They only offer water, sweet or un-sweet tea, and coffee. Think of this experience as eating at grandma's house during Thanksgiving.

As for dessert, you get two options: banana bread pudding or cobbler.

The fried chicken is really good, and don't be embarrassed to ask for seconds or thirds.

Old style southern cooking in a family atmosphere. We counted the side dishes and entrees and came up with 24 separate dishes. The greatest thing of all was to meet and visit people from all over the East Coast from Florida to Virginia. Although the line was long and the waitress perhaps as much as an hour, it was worth every bit of it! This is a must go and participate while in Savannah.

Fantastic food and service. Family style meals. Lines may be long so get there an hour before opening. Be prepared to stand in line to enter. Limited seating due to the popularity of the place. Located within the lower level of a brownstone type of building.

Food like your grandma used to make. Nothing fancy, just delicious and overly abundant. At least 10 sides and three meats, plus biscuits, sweet tea, and desserts. Come hungry. The vegetables are on point, fried chicken is as good as you can make it at home. Family style dining lets you get to know your table mates. The setting is very comfortable. Cashier is super charming. Warning: there's always a line at the door, you may have to wait an hour or more, and it's cash only. Well worth it for a homey indulgence. Plan to nap the rest of the day.

I came here with members of my church, yesterday. This is a fantastic dining experience! The building itself is lovely (built on 1870). The food is excellent (fresh and hot) and is laid out in such a way that it feels like a big family gathering. The staff is super friendly and attentive. I would definitely return if I get the chance.

Wonderful experience! My sister and I visited in November and it was well worth the wait in line. We got almost to the door before we realized they did not accept credit cards.. the manager was so nice, he assured us we would be fine and let us go ahead and eat and then told us where the nearest ATM was so we could get cash and come back. Great food, wonderful atmosphere!

Love love love this place! Skip Paula Deens and eat here so good. Great food no outstanding food and service. Love the family style seating and eating. We met some really great people and enjoyed out visit! CASH ONLY! Highly recommend.

Delicious and well worth the wait. We arrived at about 11:20 on a Thursday and waited 40 minutes to eat. Not bad overall. We sat down to over 24 dishes at our table. From candied sweet potatoes to cabbage to beef stew. Each was tasty. The fried chicken was especially good. The biscuits melted in your mouth!

They repeatedly asked if we need anything more and brought new dishes quickly. We shared a table with a group of Canadians who'd been to the restaurant twice before. On this trip they were staying in South Carolina and drove down just to eat at the restaurant. I think that's a ringing endorsement!

At first glance, one might think that Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room is more of a tourist attraction. And to be fair, it does cater mainly to tourists. Upon first being brought for lunch here, the original impression was that the hour or two line to get in was not going to worth the experience. However, after being sat at communal tables with a practically never ending supply of food, my impression changed significantly. Not only was the dining experience rather unique, but the food was probably the best I have had in Savannah. The menu is prix fixe in that everything is laid out on the table when you get there. Drinks are included in the price.
Again, you will wait in line to eat here. However you will probably find it worthwhile, and at very reasonable prices.

We could have been in line an hour and a half before the doors opened by my Mom wanted to go see something quick. When we got back and parked up the street there were instead of 10 people waiting there were about 90. We had a good time talking to others in line and then finally we were in and seated at a table with others. Just so happens we were seated with the grandmother of the girl whose husband now owns the place and her son, so we got a bit of history from them. Now for the food. It was INCREDIBLE. Wow way more than worth the wait in line. I don't think I have ever eaten any place in the south that the southern cooking was so good. I know if I ever return to Savannah I will plan my trip around Mrs. Wilkes. We went to Savannah over the Thanksgiving weekend and had to eat at Paula Deans place on Thanksgiving day. While we thought the food was good we didn't realize what good really was until the next day at Mrs. Wilkes. The selection was awesome, the fried chicken was the best, and I only wish I would have had more than one stomach. If you go to Savannah do not miss this place.
