An exhibit of Irish and Scottish Celtic Revival jewelry that tells the story of how this living art form evolved from the dying embers of the medieval tradition to the beginning of the current Celtic Renaissance.

Description

This exhibit and book was created in 2013. The purpose is to study the jewelry of the Celtic Revival from about 1840 through the present, with most examples from the 19th and early to middle 20th centuries.A second showing, with some new acquisitions, will be presented at Walker Metalsmiths in Andover, NY during March of 2016.

The jewelry of the exhibit includes colorful Scottish Victorian pebble jewelry, Irish facsimiles of medieval brooches that were popular in the 1850, including the famous Waterhouse "Tara" brooch. Luckenbooth and Claddagh jewelry, Iona jewelry by Alexander Ritchie, Iain McCormick, John Hart and others as well of a selection of more contemporary work by the craftsmen who were influencing the current fashions in Celtic jewelry, Aidan Breen, Ola Gorie, Russell Caldwell and others from the 1870s and 1980s.
