The Michigan Tech trails have some of the greatest cross country skiing in the nation with large amounts of lake enhanced snow and excellent grooming

I love skiing and snowshoeing here in the winter. Trails are always well maintained. Ski rentals are cheap for students. My only (minor) complaint is the naming of the Gnome Loop. If it's going to be part of the Tolkien Trails, it should named after a Tolkien creature!

Remember these are paid trails. A day pass is $10 and gets you access to a shower and sauna. Great if you are camping in the area.

The Nara Chalet can be rented year round (free of charge) from the City of Houghton. I personally have used it for Girl Scout meetings, baby showers and multiple birthday parties. It could be used for multiple different reasons, i.e rummage sales, school activities, meetings, etc. There are nice big tables, big bathrooms, and a cozy fire place. There is an awesome sledding hill with a groomed trail leading to it. Also, nicely groomed cross country skiing trails.

Amazing flow trail, Sure Would trail to Don't Think is a great downhill flow run; you can even make it to the bottom without peddling if you keep up speed.

Beautiful place in Houghton. Well groomed trails, awesome destination for trail running or mountain biking, walking dogs or just for an evening stroll.

A very peaceful place with well maintained trails. Signposts and maps at every junction make navigation without using your phone fun. Also, if you are looking for a reason to get a mountain bike- this is it!

Arguably the best trail system in the state. Great for mountain biking, nordic skiing, running, hiking, you name it. It is also home to a paintball course.

This is a great place to walk and see birds. Very peaceful area. The trail is about 4 tenths of a mile, from us 41 to the bay.
