Delicious food. Good drink selection. Good service. Nice atmosphere. What else do you want in a restaurant?

Was great! My dress matched the upstairs carpeting, to which other customers noticed. All great things take time- so be prepared to wait and don't complain because we are all hungry. The food is the bomb. The parking is difficult, but nothing that can't be figured out.

Always love going to Maxie's. The food is amazing, even my southern wife says it's the best comfort food she's ever had and she's been to Louisiana quite a few times! The oyster happy hour alone is a great reason to go to Maxie's. The entire staff is all very skilled and friendly and the bartenders especially are great. If you're looking for a good comfort food spot in MKE Maxie's is your place

Two different friends named this place when asked for dinner recommendations, and I was not disappointed. A quick glance at the online menu, and I had to be there.

We came during happy hour and tried oysters for the first time ($1 oysters during happy hour)! They are surprisingly less disgusting than I thought they would be. The staff was helpful and explain how to eat them as we were clueless.

Next came the cornbread and they were NOT stingy with the cornbread. Completely enamored with the food so far, we realized we hadn't even ordered our main course yet!

We ordered the catfish dinner and the BBQ sandwich. The catfish was perfectly cooked with a crunchy cornbreading. The BBQ was tender and flavorful. Absolutely amazing all around.

Went here for Valentine's day dinner. Had a table right away. I ordered the crab smothered sole which was one of the specials. The flavor from the seafood was decent & cooked well but overall a bit bland. Disappointed in the sauce and especially the spinach. Guess I expected to be more impressed for the price. My boyfriend ordered the pork cheeks and felt similar. Food was good enough but not worth the money we spent. Also, our waiter was helpful when he was there but felt like we spent a lot of time waiting for him when it wasn't that crowded.

Awesome atmosphere. Great oysters. Good food. As someone who avoids carbs, it's hard to find a full meal on the menu.

Food was way overpriced even during happy hour. For the BBQ shrimp appetizer it was $13, all it was were 5 very small half dollar size shrimp and a slice of bread soaked in gravy. Every dish we had was very under seasoned. Shrimp and grits were overcooked so bad, it was like eating cornbread. Tap beer was flat as well. Overall, a very disappointing experience. Only saving grace was the waitress was nice, when she decided to show up.

What an awesome eatery! Came here yesterday for a birthday dinner and the whole group couldn't stop talking about the great staff, atmosphere and food! Good portions, too- we were served so quickly and efficiently! We had a blast and will definitely be back. :)

Generous portions, nice atmosphere, good service, prices are fine considering portion size. I love that quality fresh food is purchased locally. My burger was cooked just right when most restaurants overcook. I have been to Maxie's several times spread over some years; my only issue is that with the palate of a southern girl, I found some of the food to be very under seasoned for southern cuisine. Even the burger which was otherwise perfect was somewhat bland for my taste.

Four of us decided to try Maxie's while we were in town for business. We each had something different (jambalaya, shrimp and grits, trout, and chicken) and each loved what we had. Huge portions, so you won't go away hungry. The motif upstairs was also fun and interesting.

So good! This restaurant group really knows what they're doing. I grew up around the corner and remember when that building was a convenience store, an Irish deli and then nothing. What a beautiful addition to the neighborhood. It's nice to see this historic space repurposed into something truly unique. Our server was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and oysters ($1 dollar oysters happy hour?!). I feel like I've gotten so desensitized by the terrible, rude service in NY that I was taken aback by someone who actually seemed to want to be there. The food was incredible, southern done right- portion wise as well as flavor. We ordered 18 oysters, 2 cocktails, two entrees and dessert all gor $74. Unreal.

Delicious food. Exactly what it promised to be. Great service! The server took my allergies into consideration and suggested adjustments and separated items to accommodate me. The brisket was tender and perfect. The cocktails were on point. Pork cheeks are a must for everyone to try!

Been here twice this year (once was on fat Tuesday). That day was crazy busy, but we got a table in about 45 min. and the food was great. Both times the meal was awesome and the service awesome too.

Maybe there are better southern/Cajun places to eat, but certainly not here in Milwaukee. We really enjoy Maxie's.

Best place to get a great variety of southern brewery beers. Abita is my favorite brewery and they always have the brews outside of the basics. The food is amazing as always and the service is top notch. If you plan on coming on a weekend or late weeknight, make sure you have time to wait as the place is always hopping. Tip: if you don't mind eating at the bar, the upstairs bar is more available and has great seating and service is faster. I will always come here for a good taste of the south. Best in Milwaukee.

Fun atmosphere and good drink selection. The cajun food was very bland... tomato paste alone doesn't make for a good crawfish etoufee.

Real southern comfort food in the middle of Milwaukee!

Upon arrival, we were seated right away and greeted by an attentive waitress. I went to Maxie's with one other person, she had her very first Mint Julep, and I had a Kentucky Sidecar. They were both well presented and well made, despite being in slightly sticky glasses from minor spillage during travel from bar to table, but this was only because both drinks were well filled! My dinner partner was extremely impressed with her first Mint Julep experience. Be prepared for stiff drinks here!

We started with some pulled pork croquettes, an appetizer on the Thursday special menu. They were crispy, delicious morsels of barbecue. The touch of sauce on top gave them the perfect kick and made them a great taste treat. I could see the option becoming a menu regular in the future.

After much deliberation over a menu where having one of everything seemed like a feasible option, my partner decided on the fried catfish and I on the crabcake platter. Portions here are huge! Perfect for one if you haven't eaten all day, otherwise expect to get at least two meals out of a dish.

My partner said the catfish was crispy with a delicious kick, and the side of mixed green beans was the perfect savory side. The crab cake platter was packed with rich red beans and rice, a creamy but chunky slaw, and crispy and savory (not too sweet, which is great!) sweet potato fries. The crab cakes had a few rogue shells, but the overall taste with the sauce on top was heavenly.

We decided to overstuff ourselves and induldge in both of the dessert specials of the day: eggnog cheesecake and peanut butter pie. Both of them had tastes true to their name. The eggnog cheesecake was perfectly paired with sugared cranberries and was smooth and silky. The peanut butter pie had a delucious crumbled cookie-like textured crust with rich creamy peanut butter tasting filling, garnished with shimmering chocolate ganache and a crispy, crunchy peanut brittle triangle. (Can you tell which was my favorite?) Again the portions of the dessert were huge, and you could easily share among two, if not three.

You will not leave this place hungry, and will most likely be taking something home to enjoy the following day. For this reason, I think the prices are fairly reasonable. The vibrant decor is fitting of the theme. I wouldn't recommend it for a first date due to the noise during peak times, but it is great for hanging out with friends or celebrating the end of the week.

Be prepared to roll youself and/or stumble out of this cozy, but loud, Milwaukee southern comfort food center!

Great place to stop with coworkers when in Milwaukee. Unique local ambiance with superb service and curated southern cuisine . Best wings I have ever had.

Love this place. Food is always fantastic, and the drink menu is always on point. Generally try to order one of the specials... but to this point have liked everything off the normal menu as well. Gumbo is perfect, chicken friend chicken, and ribs are fantastic!

Good lord is this a good restaurant. I live in the American South, so I was skeptical that a restaurant in the greater Milwaukee metropolitan area could pull off quality southern comfort food and/or Cajun fare. My skepticism was met by a friendly staff, an incredibly diverse & deep whiskey selection and some of the best food I've ever eaten. Sometimes I keep quiet about restaurants like this since I don't want to contribute to crowding, but I live 1,000 miles away, so I can crow about it all I want. So, if you're ever in Wisconsin, go here and eat all of the food. All of it.
