In our time, (early to late eighties) children learned responsibility and respect at a very young age. Often times, both the mother and father had to work to support the family and simply make ends meet.

My mom and dad never discouraged me on anything I wanted to do. They showed me through example as well as supported in my decision making. I decided to join the NAVY in 1990 and they supported me then. Eight years later, I found myself Honorably Discharged and more educated, with a successful Principal Engineering career in
San Diego, California.

Although, I never applied myself as I could have in school, my journey in life often bought back memories of those who influenced me along the way. My Primary school teacher, Mrs. Douglas, who always said, “you can do it”, or my High School English teacher, Mr. Turner who showed me no matter what, people in life can be cruel, but you have to keep going. Last but not least, my Biology teacher, Mrs. Johnson. She showed me how important education really is.

Each of these teachers were educators in the Marlboro County School System. My family laid the foundation, but the teachers were only there to assist. Don’t make your assumption on county stats or district test scores. I promise you, if you work with your child at home and teach them that life has more to offer, as long as they work for it; the Teachers at Marlboro County High School as well as the teachers in the Marlboro County School District will support you as well as your childs dreams.
