Magmud is the best concoction ever. You haven't fully experienced Austin till you visit Magnolia Cafe. It's a classic Austin staple. The gingerbread pancakes with whipped cream, pecans, cinnamon & real maple syrup are beyond delicious. I cannot recommend Magnolia enough. It's the best diner food I've ever had👌❤😍

    Ah, the Magnolia Cafe.
A couple of years before I would eventually move to Austin, I was visiting on work business. I found myself at the Magnolia and remembered a local friend of mine saying "When in doubt, eat all the tacos".

So, I ordered a taco plate.
Sweet mother of all that is holy and good in the culinary world, those were the BEST tacos I have ever had.
I returned to the Bay Area with a mental recipe. I would make tacos and they would be awesome.

I really need to go back to that place soon.

I've been here at least twice a week for the past several weeks and I must say I am thoroughly satisfied with this restaurant as a whole. I've been to the other location and it just doesn't measure up to this one. The staff is eccentric, friendly and helpful. The food actually TASTES GOOD! I feel like the cooks actually put their heart into what they're making. You walk in and feel immediately welcomed and walk out feeling full! I would give 6 stars if I could!

I've been going here regularly for the past couple of months and I can honestly say this is one of the best places to eat as far as variety. I'm never disappointed! The staff is always very polite and cheerful, which isn't the case at the other location. Glad I can enjoy such good food with an even better experience. :)

I've been going to Magnolia for over 20 years at this point and it used to be one of my favorite casual eateries in Austin. In the last 5 or so years I've gone less and less as their food has started to decline in both quality and flavor, while prices have climbed higher and higher. I reached the end tonight. The food was edible but not enjoyable. And unless you do nothing but order a side or two, the least you can spend on a meal is $7.50 off the breakfast menu (this used to be their cheap option. Not so anymore). It isn't worth the money or the calories to eat here anymore. The only good thing about the visit was the service which was prompt and pleasant as always, which is why I gave 2 stars instead of 1. Sorry Magnolia. You've lost a long time customer.

Sorry I loved it!, I've always felt curious about this place. An amazing quality of ingredients make good product, the pancakes blown my taste buds, the wait is completely worth it, the service is great, they could use better coffee, but that won't diminish my rate. It's kind of family place so there will be some kids around, also I saw that is pet friendly. Regardless is a great place for breakfast.

This place was pretty nice, and the fact that I was a little underwhelmed is definitely more due to the fact that some more "native" friends really amped this place up as a local cultural icon, and touting its laurels of "having been on television." Because any diner that's been on TV clearly is superior to everything else, right?
On its own merits, though, they serve a decent burger. Their "home fries" are not fries... it's more along the lines of cubed/quartered petite potatoes. When I want a burger and fries, I'm really hoping for a serving of fries. Not roasted potatoes. It was very tasty, don't get me wrong. Again, expectations. I was given a certain vision of what it would be like to eat here, and it was NOT that.
Eat here with an open mind, no expectations, and come with good company. It's a pleasant experience. But if you're going to bring your out-of-town relatives here for a uniquely Austin experience, they may leave a bit disappointed.

I was actually very impressed with the food. I'm not sure I was expecting it to be that good, but when it arrived it was wonderful. The climate is somewhat casual and weird in an Austin-y way. The staff was super-friendly and my water glass was always full (kudos to you).

Nice breakfast options for the price, pancakes are huge. Waitstaff is friendly and food service is fast. The place was packed the whole time we were there, parking is a bit tight, but there is more parking in the back. Bathrooms need more attention.

What can I say about Magnolia Cafe that hasn't been said a thousand times by others? This is THE go to spot for late night diner food that's worth a damn and doesn't break your budget. Some people think the staff here are a little too unfriendly, but that's probably because they came to the restaurant drunk and treated the staff like bullcocky. If you go there and act like a respectable human being, the staff will provide great customer service. Also, be aware there's an enclosed patio area that's available for seating during nice weather. If you find yourself waiting in line for weekend brunch, you can ask the hostess to seat you in the patio instead and you'll shave a bunch of time off the wait.

Great atmosphere, has a "old diner" feel to it. I came in the early AM, it was very busy with the bustling of families and kids and grandparents. The staff was working hard, not friendly, looked tired, but great service. The food tasted like the recipe was created 20 years ago and never changed. Pretty cool place.
