well i've done quite a bit of research on you guys and by so far I would love to become a marine but i'm not quite sure what age you have to be..i'm guessing tho it 17 with parent permission and 18 and up is our choice to joinit's to bad they don't have one for 13-17 that would be awesome cause i'm only 13 but would love to join the military and go t boot camp but i'm only 13 and live on the other side of america

Arriving at night to this island after a long time traveling makes you a bit groggy, so when you arrive you feel like you are running back and forth, despite remembering the fact that you didn't bring any luggage. Better call home and tell them I made it, on second thought, better just leave a message. It was such a blur getting to my room, it felt like I was up for days, just waiting in lines. I had only intended on being their for a week, but they gave me clothes and let me stay longer! Meals, exercise routines, and classroom training were all included! They even dressed me up and took my picture to show how awesome this place is! I highly recommend a visit!

Parris Island is an all-inclusive resort located in Port Royal near Beaufort SC. It includes meals, salon styling, clothing, lodging, toothpaste, and Aqua Velva.
During my stay back in 1986 the lodging was very open and airy. You shared a room with at least 50 other guests and it was a 3 month minimum stay with optional additional extensions provided how well you performed during your stay.
We had 5 personal concierge members constantly attending to us. The excursions were sort of mandatory and the staff seemed to get quite impatient when we didn't get to each adventure station in a timely manner. Some of the excursions included weapons training, martial arts, backpacking, camping, map reading and obstacle courses.
During the 5 to 6 minutes we had to eat the meals seemed to be well prepared. I am not really sure how it tasted as we had to get out of the dining facility so quickly because we were required to stand outside in rows of four for at least 20 minutes everytime we ate.
All of the staff must have been very hard of hearing as they yelled at you every time they spoke to you and you in turn had to yell back in a very loud voice to ensure They understood your response. They really took time to engage the guests when something went wrong because all of the concierge staff would gather around one guest and yell at them to ensure there would be no additional problems.
Transportation seemed to be an issue on the Island as you had to walk or run every where you went. During these walking or running sessions the staff and guests would sing songs that I had never heard on the radio prior to my arrival on the Island. Apparently yellow birds are considered to be an invasive species to the Island and they are destroyed in quick fashion according to one of the songs.
Fashion was also very important to the Island staff. Everyone had to wear matching clothing and there was no room for adding any personal "flair" to your wardrobe.
I am not sure where the Island hires it's staff from but wherever they come from they seem to refer to all the guests as "filthy maggots". I am certain that is meant as some endearing term in their culture but it comes off as a bit harsh to those of us not used to it.
Overall I would say my stay at Parris Island was great. I have never had an experience in any resort quite like that one. If you decide to go they have special travel agents that will arrange your trip.response / report this review -

Can only book a stay of three months, with four years at similar facilities. Intercontinental Breakfast left much to be desired. Wake up calls are rather insistent. Great facilities with lots of physical activities. Not much in the way of meeting new singles of the opposite sex. Don't expect much privacy either, they appear to consistently overbook and have like 90 dudes in one room with access to one public shower.

Food was great and the daily activities we participated in made it the best vacation, not to mention the staff, they take care of schedualing it all! 10/10 would recommend.

Graduated Aug 16, 1996. 2nd Battalion, Hotel Company, PL.2121. Senior DI SSGT ALGER. Not a day passes that I don't look back on the summer I spent aboard Parris Island, and how it changed me forever. If you would've told me then that I would miss Parris Island one day..I would've said that you've obviously never been there!

Three month all-inclusive vacation. Staff was very energetic but could be a little more friendly. Felt rushed while dining. Beds were pretty comfortable, was woken up in the middle of the night every couple of days to watch for fires. Skip the sand pit too many fleas. Great walking paths with good views. Barber on site, cut was way too close and fast, did not tip. Pool was cold, life guards seemed attentive but not helpful. Advertising was accurate, no rose garden. Last week was the Crucible excursion. +54 hours duration. Plenty of activites to keep busy, night life was the same. Snacks were provided. Hospitable greetings on the last day, checkout was fast.

If you ever have the experience to watch a loved one (younger brother) graduate from Parris Island it will stay with you forever. It will make you feel all fuzzy inside with pride. Dress very warm for the fall time graduation. Words cant really explain how proud i am of my brother and his new brothers and our finest United States Marine Corps.

I am a retired Canadian Officer and tried to visit the museum 22 Feb. 17. The website indicates it is open to all visitors. At the gate I presented valid drivers licence, insurance and registration. I was asked to park and wait. Eventually one of the Marines came over and indicated it would take an hour and a half to process a pass. I said OK and also gave him my military ID to see if it would help. He called his supervisor and then said foreigners cannot be processed. If this is the case then indicate so on the website and I will not waste my time attempting to remember those Marines I served with and those I did not. If in fact those responsible are just too lazy to do their job I hope there is someone listening that will sort them out.
