Last year I had an unfortunate encounter with a Mrs. Duffy who, despite my unique circumstances, seemed inflexible and unsympathetic. As a full-time working parent of children with special needs, finding time for self-care can be incredibly challenging. When I explained my scheduling constraints and expressed my concerns about committing to weekly sessions, the therapist seemed dismissive and told me that it wouldn't work out if I couldn't commit to that frequency.
While I understand the importance of regular therapy sessions, I believe a good therapist should also take into account their client's individual circumstances. It felt disheartening to be met with such rigidity and a lack of understanding. I was hoping for a therapist who would be willing to work with me to find a suitable schedule that could accommodate my responsibilities as a parent and my full-time job.
Therapy is meant to be a supportive journey, and it's crucial for therapists to adapt to their clients' unique situations. Unfortunately, this therapist missed the mark in recognizing the challenges I faced and didn't provide the flexibility and understanding that I was seeking. It's important to find a therapist who can work collaboratively and considerately with their clients' circumstances to ensure effective therapy sessions.
