Step through the ornate, heavy doors of Lotus Thai in Hillcrest into a cozy atmosphere, evoking the comfort of a traditional Thai home. Rustic wood-paneled walls proudly showcase Thai musical instruments and artifacts, while intricately detailed gold medallions cover the ceiling overlooking a Buddha statue with an omnipresent eye standing guard near the center of the restaurant.

Starters include Thai Corn Fritters, Lettuce Wraps with Mieng Rice Noodles and other traditional selections for sharing. Main courses consist of traditional favorites like Pad Thai and Drunken Noodles, along with inventive dishes such as Hor-Mok halibut. This steamed combination of blended halibut, coconut milk, egg and red curry is seasoned with kaffir lime leaves, bell peppers, basil leaves and topped with coconut milk served in a distinct circular cast-iron pan. A favorite, the Panang Half Duck Curry, is named after a state in northern Malaysia and carries with it the flavors and aromas of the distant land.
