Nice outdoor gun range, the staff is friendly and makes sure that you are comfortable with handling their rentals before you step out to shoot, the pricing is reasonable and the gun variety is decent. Only reason I didn't give a 5 star rating is because you can't purchase any weapons and there's alot of brass left on the floors other than that I will be returning for sure.
We have been looking for an outdoor range that is nearer than Johnson City and when we found Lone Star Gun Range in Lockhart I was happy. About a 40 minute drive from SW Austin, it has a number of shooting areas, short and long range, one for rifles and everything in between. I has an office on premises and is manned when the range is open. The parking is near the shooting area and isn't hard to walk to - this is important to me as I have mobility issues. There is a real restroom (not a porta potty) and plenty of friendly folks who work there. They are available for private parties, too. It is reasonably prices, and as I recall it's $100 annually per person. They are extremely rigid about safety and insist that you read aloud one section of their rules (so that they can be sure you really read it!!) I only gave it 4 stars for now, as we were there late on a Saturday afternoon so I can't speak to how busy it gets or if you have to wait for a spot, but I assure you that we will go back and actually shoot this time.
My wife and I have been going here for about eight years and have noticed a slow, steady decline in customer service. Today was our final trip, we went to check in and they have a safety list you need to read beforehand. No worries, this is an important part of shooting sports. Whilst reading it you are supposed to say certain portions aloud, but the instructions were unclear. I asked for clarity on what the clerk needed me to recite. I was met with a smart ass quip and no actual answer. With that bit of unnecessary sarcasm, we gathered our things and left. I refuse to pay someone to insult me. This location has slowly gone from the best range in the Austin area to a truly negative experience. This is the first time I’ve ever left a range without ever taking a firearm out of a case and this is the final time I give Lone Star an opportunity to disappoint me.
I don't go here often but when I do it's everything you're looking for in a shooting range. They also have a wide variety of pistols and rifles you can rent to shoot. Come on come all. You can save some money by bringing your own ammo, eye protection and hearing protection. Range fee is 10 or 15 bucks per person.
Great outdoor shooting range! There is plenty of stations with different target options and distance options as well. They even have a shotgun area to shoot clay discs. The staff was very welcoming but serious about safety, which is always a bonus when it comes to shooting ranges. Definitely recommend you stop by.
DON'T GO TO THIS PLACE! Staff & management have ZERO SENSE OF CUSTOMER SERVICE, read the poor reviews because they all have this negative underlying theme. This is a facility where management will not back the customer in any situation.
After walking in, I was ignored by a full-time staff person Anthony, I INQUIRED about a day pass then he interrupted me by aggressively asking to take off my sunglasses. I can take sarcastic jokes, but this guy appears to have a serious chip on his shoulder and didn't want to be bothered by me or any other customers.
You and yours will feel uncomfortable if you ask for help. On a different occasion it was a mistake to bring my girlfriend and family because they were treated with the same attitude by the staff while the manager did nothing. Again, it felt wrong to ask to pay for day pass. Your loved ones will be treated with attitude and rudeness.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYBODY. Do not go to because of location or price, the terrible customer service will out weight these factors.
Great place. Great prices. Fun and safe. Great people. Bring your own guns or rent one of theirs. Kid friendly.
Extremely pleasant and helpful staff to a couple of complete beginners. Instructions were clear and helpful and made us at ease with using the weapons. We had a great experience. Thank you.
Best Gun Range in Austin Hands down for a beginner! Gun culture was something that was new to me and i was skeptical about. But after visiting here, my impression took a 180 degree turn. The staff is extremely helpful for a beginner. They teach how to handle each gun you pick and make sure you do la demo in front of them. We tried almost 7 guns on the same day. Clearly we were excited!
Would recommend this gun range without a blink!
Great and cheap experience. Very nice and professional staff. Love that you can rent a few guns and just head down to the range on your own, which is literally just outside the door (depends on what you shoot).
Too bad they didn't sell patches though.. 😎
Customer service is terrible. I have gone several times and each time they are rude. No matter how few people are there they manage to act like it is a burden you are their. I was outright insulted when I bought range time because I'm a male with long hair. Love the range/price, can't stand the staff.
I love this range, especially early on weekdays. Personally, if your schedule allows I don't recommend going on weekends because it gets packed and you might find yourself waiting for a lane. I have been shooting on ranges in South Texas (San Antonio/Austin) since '92 and this is my favorite. This is a genuine "Texas" range. I don't understand how anyone would complain about this range and call themselves a Texan.
Rifle range has stops at 50, 75, and 100 yards. They have a 15 and a 7 yard range for handguns. Personally I hate indoor ranges. This is the spot for those that live in the Greater South Austin Area and want to shoot outdoors. I also love how there isn't a range officer to put up with and all cease fires are called by shooters. $15 to shoot all day, which is an excellent price! My only recommendation is to bring your own ammo and targets to save money. Also don't wear your new shoes, you will be shooting in the dirt and your shoes will get dirty and wear a cap and bring a cap for your significant other as well. And please don't be "that guy" that rents the 50 cal Barrett when it is busy because you are essentially taking 3 rifles lanes, no one will want to shoot next to you until you are done. The muzzle brake concussion deflects back towards the 2 lanes next to it and it is not pleasant, it literally shakes the ground. Lol.
The folks at lone Star are awesome!!! They are super helpful if you've never shot a gun, or if you are back to shoot more!! We've purposely drove over an hour just to come back to see these fine folks!!
Our bachelor party had a great time here. They worked in rental guns with our guns and accommodated a wide range of shooters- from a former 10th Mountain officer to compete novices. The facilities were good and prices were reasonable. Exactly what we were looking for.
Inexpensive place to shoot. Friendly staff. Do not expect high end state of the art facility. Good ole shooting range for a lot of fun. Firearms available for rent as well. Knowledgeable staff.
This is my favorite gun range, only $15 for all day and they are very laid-back. They have a good shot gun area, a good 22 area and great pistol and rifle ranges. Even an area to shoot bow and arrow.
Can not say how great this place is.Relaxed settings and staff is great. Knowledgeable and always willing to help. Plus it's nice to see the owner on site also willing to jump right in and answer questions.
I drove 1.5 hours to get told that they would not allow shooting past 5:30pm though Google says they close at 7pm. The workers are rather rude every time I have been. No compensation for my drive not even allowed to shoot. And they never answer the phone as I try to call ahead to confirm certain things. These people need a briefing on proper customer service
Went to this range today. Had a great time. Staff were courteous and helpful. Lots of nice people on the range.
I like that they treat you like an adult and don't have some range officer breathing down your neck as you shoot.
Nice facility, I'll be back.
A friend of mine brought me here for my birthday a few months back. The layout seemed a bit strange to me at first as I am accustomed to a different range in which I can drive right up to the shooting platform. It wasn't a big deal really as we weren't going to be doing any bench rest shooting but didn't really like having to make multiple trips to the parking lot to switch out guns and equipment. The shotgun area is kind of a joke and one of the clay throwers didn't work, but we had fun anyways. The staff is mostly polite and the costs are fair (these days that's hard to beat), though some could be a bit intrusive about safety but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The other shooters were also polite and courteous. I liked that they rent out guns, and at a reasonable price no less. Being able to "try before you buy" offers a bit of peace of mind about purchases. The only think I didn't like was that they do not have a 200 yard rifle range, but really, not everyone has that much open land right?
I've been to many different ranges in Texas and while this may not be my favorite, it is definitely a great place to spend some time sending lead down field.
