Being a transplant from CA to GA, I was eager to try smoking meats. For Father's Day, I decided that we would get a smoker for the "Grill Chef," my Dad. I found out about Lang's just from driving back and forth on that highway. Had no idea who they were but decided to stop and get some information. I went into the little office and was not greeted when I walked in. I probably was not their typical customer. I turned around and asked a young gentleman by the name of "Benjamin" if he could show me their basic smoker as I was planning on purchasing one really soon. We went back into the yard and he showed me one smoker that was intended for basic home smoking. From what he told me, it was sufficient enough. No need for the commercial use. He briefly explained the functionality and I thanked him after having to ask for a business card. I told him I'd give him a call in the afternoon to ask more questions after I would research the product. I left. I did my diligent duty of researching and Lang's is primarily a wholesaler. It appeared that he was willing to sell me a smoker though. I called Benjamin back at about 3:45pm. I asked about a dozen questions. He answered briefly, probably because it was near closing time. He quoted me the price. All good. I told him I would call the following day to confirm and place the order over the phone. I asked about completion time and he said it would only take a couple of weeks. Great timing as I was still a month out for Father's Day. Placed the order the next day. Long story short, it took over four weeks to get the smoker delivered. First, delivery was included. Then, the day of the delivery, NOT. Hmmm.In the meantime, every phone call I made in the interim, they would either not return my phone calls or they would tell me "Let me check into it and I'll call you right back." Of course, I had to call back!! At one point, I was told that they needed one more piece that was on backorder. Many excuses in the middle. At the end, I was told that they were waiting for a tire for it. On one of my final calls, I spoke to another Benjamin, and after three minutes of talking, I asked if he was the Senior Benjamin and the other was his son. Confirmed. He was very apologetic about the delay and said he'd get right on it. OK. Sure. This is the more than half-a-dozen times I've heard that. Of course, he also did not get right on it. It must be genetics. Or, lead by example.

Father's Day, comes and goes. No gift to give. :( and embarrassing to say the least.

Delivery day finally comes. I'm home alone waiting for the smoker, nearly two months out. No show. Again, next day is another attempt to deliver it. The delivery person shows up with the smoker on the attached trailer to the truck. The delivery person tells me that he doesn't have the right equipment to put it onto our deck because it has one step and the smoker is too heavy for him. He left it on the side of the house because his mid-20s son whom sat inside the truck, wouldn't help him either. I certainly would be of no help. He apologized and told me that he would be willing to return later if my husband was willing to help him lift it onto the deck. "Uh, no. Not really." It gets even worse. I called the office to find out where I could buy wood for the smoker and have it all ready before gifting it. Well, the answer I get from the younger Benjamin, "Well, I'm not sure. It's been quite a while since I've smoked stuff and had to buy wood. I really don't know where but I know I used Pecan wood." What?!?!? Even if it is the truth, you're telling your customer that?!? The delivery person answered something similar and added that I should befriend the neighborhood tree cutters and get their Pecan-trees' wood!

Wood purchased. Purchased brisket. Bought a cover. Action.

Two weeks into it, the paint/coating is bubbling and peeling. We've called Lang's -- no response. Finally, they respond that they will give us touch up paint. It's been two weeks. No response. Not happy campers. Would I buy it again? Yes. Not from Lang's.

Ive been cooking 30 plus years and the lang 84" deluxe I got in April of this. year is by far the best smoker I have ever cooked on. If you cook for a living and don't have a lang smoker you owe it to yourself to buy one . I promise it's worth the money and it will pay for itself in no time.
