The land that Lake Elowin sits on was once used as a natural watering hole by the Yokut Indians. In the 1920s this natural body of water was rebuilt into a lake that is naturally fed by water from the high Sierras. Elowin is an ancient Indian word that refers to a promised land, an enchanted land beyond the setting sun.
Owned and operated by Milton Melkonian since 1977, Lake Elowin has maintained its old California resort appearance and peacefulness. There are no phones and no TVs, just rustic but clean cabins nestled between pines and redwoods, looking out towards the lake. There is a short walking path on the property to the beautiful Kaweah River.
Beautiful and serene on its own, it is also a mere 2.5 miles away from the entrance to the grandiose Sequoia National Park. A serene getaway enjoyed by all types of visitors, from families to writers and movie producers.
All of our cabins come stocked with linens and towels, cookware and barbecues.
