BEST CAKES IN ALL OF TUCSON
The service was terrible and the food was worse. They're selling old pastries that you can tell weren't even great when freshly baked. It's clear that they're economizing themselves right out of business - you can't have a great tasting product with sub-par ingredients. Shame on them for selling old baked goods to their customers!
The woman who works behind the counter at the bakery is rude and doesn't know what a morning bun is. She refused to let us talk to the baker. Overall her customer service skills are non existent and I wouldn't recommend this place.
The pastry was alright. I was more put off by the service. I asked if they had flan, and they responded why would we have that, this place is not Mexican it's French.
When she said this I was staring at the Mexican wedding cookies they has displayed proudly. which are not French.
If you're going to call yourself La Baguette your baguettes better be excellent, and your croissants made with 100% butter. La Baguette fails on both counts. I purchased 2 Regular baguettes at lunchtime. One was sliced immediately and enjoyed, while the other was wrapped and set aside. (I didn't wish to run out & knew it would be enjoyed at home if not eaten at luncheon) Second loaf made it home, along with croissants I purchased at same time. Baguette #2 was supposed to be enjoyed with cheese & wine. It was a hard baton when unwrapped and obviously 1-2 days old. There is no way a freshly baked loaf of anything can be crouton hard in 6 hours!
Then there were the croissants, while flaky and the flavoring of Filling was good, our refined palates knew we were getting shortening blend and not 100% butter.
I now recall why I don't frequent La Baguette, it's not a true French bakery. I've been to France, have eaten their delightful breads & pastries and know the real thing. This is not it.
PS I did attempt to contact La Baguette and explain my disappointment but never received a call of inquiry, or apology. I take that to mean they don't care about their quality.
Can there be a bakery and call itself a bakery that doesn't serve cupcakes and cakes, I suppose so, but please, ignore Steve's comment. He is WRONG about "the person who gave a bad review because this bakery doesn't make cupcakes needs some education. This is a bakery not a cupcake or pastry shop", HUH? What the heck does that mean? Of course a true bakery will have cupcakes and cakes. Then he goes on to say "It's a bit like writing a bad review about your local hardware store because they don't sell apples". Well, apparently Steve is like "a human being that doesn't have a brain". Personally, the only reason I go to a bakery is for cakes. If they don't have or make cakes, then I go elsewhere. It depends what you want. But he really needs to stop drinking the kool aid because apparently, according to Keith, they DO make cakes. Enjoy the goodies everyone.

The one and two stars are wrong. Yes, the service is very casual, sometimes slow. Yes, they have a service charge on cards below $5. But they are ultimately friendly if you are and their breads are probably for now (in April 2016, and you can never say absolutely as no one knows everything and over years the situation can change) simply the best value in Tucson. Yes, better quality bread on average than the leading bread joint that everyone knows and most folks go to. I compare Rustic and Compagne, and it's no contest. I'll pay the extra $3 any day. Better ingredients make the difference. Baking skill and consistency maybe about the same as the other joint. And their gluten-free cakes and pastries are extremely good as well. Just make sure when you order them that you are very specific about gluten-free to avoid surprises.
CAN'T COUNT CHANGE?? NOT SMART ENOUGH TO TO LOOK AT A BILL IN THE LIGHT. OR JUST STUPID !! NO CUSTOMERS NEEDED HERE, PLEASE RECOMEND A BAKERY THAT IS IN BUSINESS.
They are considered a bakery they don't make cupcakes or wedding cupcakes?? They might want to consider changing this to be competitive with the Tucson bakeries. Apparently, they do wedding cakes, and I have heard they are good. This was a huge disappointment since I frequent the bakery often and their breads, pastries are usually very good.
