Always a great time at this zoo and they're always improving and expanding. On this last visit we watched the penguins march outside around their habitat and construction on the new touch tank building is underway.
The zoo is really big, I definitely recommend tackling it in bits. We have an annual pass and go several times a year.
Friendly staff and clean. A yearly pass is the best way to go, and make sure you upgrade to the unlimited rides (train, tram, sky tram, boat, carousel). The zoo is spread out, so expect to walk a lot. Definitely bring a stroller for younger kids. The penguin house is great to escape the heat in the summer. The food options aren't the best, so we usually bring sack lunches. The new Billy Goats Gruff area is nice. It's right next to the playground.
The zoo is clean and kid friendly. I went with my nephews and sister in law. We had a great time. The polar bear, penguins and gorillas were the favorite of the day. This year I joined Friends of the Zoo and it has been worth it. Gets us all in plus discounts on food and at the gift shop. We enjoy the train, tram and sky lift as part of the yearly pass too.
I️ went today with my boys and it was a perfect day! The animals were active and no crowds at all! My son had a one on one chat with several zookeepers and he got to feed the sea lions during the show. It was the best! We’ve been many times but today was one of the best! The zoo staff was very helpful and friendly and knowledgeable , the grounds beautiful, and plenty of animals out and about.
We received Friends of the Zoo family pass this year as a gift. We've been enough times to get our money worth but not so much that our 4 yr old is over-zooed or anything. Maybe 5x through the last year but spaced sporadically due to weather. We love all the animals and exhibits, particularly riding the Sky Safari and the penguins and orangutans. Amazing for me to think back/look at photos of when I was a kid and see the strides this zoo has made. Very fun to make our son a 3rd generation kid to grow up frequenting this zoo.
I would say it it is a bit underrated zoo. It seems that, animals with the exception of a white bear, are all looking healthy. Primates have a lot of freedom to move about and can move away from the crowds if they want privacy, which is great. Yes, you have to wait and "hunt" to see them, but it only makes it more exciting. The zoo is also a huge park, and you can just have a great stroll throughout the property on its own. So, definitely recommended!
A good zoo, but one that is a little too spread out. It would have space to house double the exhibits it has now without overcrowding. That being said, they have done a great job of updating the last couple years. Most exhibits are all well done, a fantastic variety of animals, and the ski lift over africa is a nice touch. Hoping for more growth in the future
This is a great time of the year to go to the zoo. The animals are all still out, but there's not a lot of people around during the day! I went on a Wednesday, and there were several times that it was just me and the animals, which was very nice. I had my packed lunch in the chimp house while my phone charged at the free charging station. I went by myself for a "Treat Yourself" kind of day, and it was really worth it. There is a lot of walking, obviously, if you want to see everything, but if you're able, strap on those tennis shoes an hit the trail!
I think Kansas City zoo is one of the best zoos I have ever been to. It's pretty big and I would recommend to go early so that you can see all the animals and take loads of photos. Stay hydrated and wear comfortable shoes and sunscreen. I would love to go there again
Loved this zoo!!! It is very large, so bring your walking shoes and a lot of energy. I was there for 3 hours and still didn't get to see the whole place. They have a wonderful variety of animals!! I would also recommend the Wings of Wonder (W.O.W.) show near the zoo entrance.
The sky view of Africa is delightful. To eat the chicken strips are so good for some reason, I know it's strange, we always get a basket and wonder at how good they are. Prices are very reasonable compared to an amusement park. So many of the habitats have been updated, I would like to see the hippo get his turn!
Loved this place so much! We spent the whole day here, and the kids loved it even more. The boat ride was closed, unfortunately. But my son and husband both went on the Sky Tram, and would have gone more than once if not for the long line. We rode the train also. The penguins was my personal favorite, even more so because it did not smell so strongly like some other zoo's that we have visited in the past!!
We recently visited this Zoo. Coming from Nebraska, we have one of the best zoo's in the country, but I was honestly extremely impressed by the KC Zoo. The staff was friendly and helpful (even having to work on Easter Sunday). The animals were gorgeous and so active. We liked that we could buy a day band for unlimited trains, trams and carousel rides. That was a lifesaver for our little ones and their tired legs. The hugest difference from our zoo that my husband had mentioned was ours is in the city so it seems more manufactured. KC zoo feels so natural. Like you're walking in the wild and in the animals own habitats. Such a great experience. We are thankful it worked out to make this amazing last minute trip with our family. We truly enjoyed this zoo and would definitely return.
