The Kales are awesome. In a matter of weeks they settled a dispute that had been going on for over 4 years. They not only negotiated a resolution but made it fair for both parties. Very happy with the magic they worked.

Jonathan and Amy worked together very efficiently to make the divorce mediation process easy, and fast. During the mediation, they broke it down by section to ensure everything was covered. After all the details were agreed upon, they worked very quickly to draft up the separation agreement. Jonathan was also very responsive by email. Thank you for your assistance!

We used Kales and Kales for our divorce mediation and were very pleased with their level of experience and professionalism. They are friendly and personable, and they put us at ease. Every step was clearly explained. Where we would hit an impasse, the Kales’s would offer solutions to help us reach an agreement. I highly recommend their mediation services.

As much as I wanted a divorce I was hesitant to approach an attorney, mostly in fear that it would be prohibitively expensive. And I was intimidated by the unknowns of the process. One of the first steps I took was to ask my estate planning attorney for a referral. She highly recommended Kales and Kales. Before my first meeting with Jonathan Kales I reviewed their website, which described their flexible options for navigating a divorce. I went into the first meeting with high confidence that I had found the right firm.
We had two introductory meetings where I learned about the process and where I got answers regarding my specific situation. If I had been more prepared, we could have accomplished everything in one meeting. Jonathan and Amy led me through all the steps as we came to each one. I have to say that beyond working out the settlement agreement with my husband, it was a pretty painless, straightforward and simple process.

Kales & Kales, PLC help my husband and I work through our mediation. They were thorough and very knowledgeable on all aspects of mediation.
They sat us down and walked us through the process. They didn't miss a beat. They even brought up things that we didn't even consider before we went there.
The process was very cost effective compared to a lengthy divorces. We both felt very good about the process and the outcome. They responded to any questions fast and professionally.
I recommend Kales & Kales, PLC., to anyone who asks about going through mediation over hiring divorce lawyers.
They have no idea how much they've helped our family.

When I started thinking about getting a divorce I had no clue where to turn. But was very pleased to have heard about the “Collaborative” process and even happier to have found Jonathan Kales. Jonathan is very hands on and won’t tell you “what you want to hear” he will tell you the truth and help you understand how best to get through the process and in the end still feel whole. Jonathan has a very calm demeanor yet don't let that fool you into thinking he won’t fight for you and your best interests. He very smart and knows the Law, will get to know you and your case, and will provide sound advice and solutions, as well as talk you off “the ledge” if needed. He’s a calming factor in an otherwise stressful environment. I think the one thing I truly felt about Jonathan is that he cared about me. I didn't just feel like a client. He’s a very compassionate person and doesn't fit the “stereotype” people may have about lawyers.
I would highly recommend the Collaborative process and even more, Jonathan Kales and his team. Our process required more face to face meeting with my ex and her attorney, in comparison to some other reviews here. Each case is different and Jonathan doesn't work only one style that works best for him, he meets the needs of his clients. Jonathan even helped my ex with attorney recommendations when her first attorney didn't work out. That is another benefit to the Collaborative process. These attorneys are trained to work together for your best interest…to make the best of a tough situation.
If you are considering a divorce or have already started the process I can tell you with great confidence, Jonathan would be the first person you should call. Divorce is not easy and is hard on everyone involved, but Jonathan helped make this much easier for me to function because I knew I had him in my corner. After years of separation my ex and I decided to move forward on a divorce. It was recommended to me that I use Kales & Kales and I could not be any happier with that decision. I was a little nervous about the idea of doing everything electronically as the divorce process seems so daunting. However, they offered me the opportunity to ever meet them should I feel the need. Ultimately, once the process started and I saw how easy it was going to be with Kales & Kales my nerves were calm and no in-person meetings was required. The number one priority is that their clients feel comfortable.
I'm pretty sure no one has divorce on their bucket list and both Jonathan and Amy are sensitive to that when handling what seems like endless amount of questions and timely responses. The whole process took about 3-4 months and a lot of that is based on how fast you and your partner can provide the required paperwork and come to an agreement.
Additionally, when people think of lawyers they think of money--Kales & Kales is highly affordable, you know exactly what you are walking into with no hidden fees. That takes a huge stressor out of an already stressful situation. Lastly, they are will be upfront with you if they feel that they are unable to handle your divorce and not waste your time stringing you long in the process.
As it was once recommended to me, I now can pass on my own recommendation. I don't wish divorce on anyone but should you be one of many who find themselves in that situation, Kales & Kales is hands the down the first place you should be calling.response / report this review -

Jonathan and Amy were great to work with in my divorce. Because I didn't have children, etc. I was able to use the $500 option for filing paperwork. They took the stress out of the whole situation because once I handed it to them all I needed to do was wait to sign paperwork and send it back and forth. It was a quick and easy process and every time I reached out to them with a question I got a response almost immediately. I would recommend them to anyone.

It was a pleasure working with Jonathan over the last 6 months. A marriage breakup is a stressful ordeal and difficult process to navigate by yourself. I appreciated his vast experience in Virginia law, his thoroughness in reviewing my documents and overall timely resposnsiveness to my questions and concerns. I would highly recommend Jonathan for his knowlege, professionalism, and overall supportive nature during a challenging time.

A lot of people throw around the term "collaborative divorce," but Jonathan and his team walk the walk. Thanks to his patient and expert counsel, my ex-wife and I reached a settlement that was fair for both of us. And, importantly, avoiding much of the recrimination often associated with divorce enabled us to stay in touch and even get together with our now-grown children for dinner once in awhile. Granted, not all divorce situations are the same. But I felt like Kales & Kales made a sincere effort to discern what we truly wanted and try to get us there.
