    Excellent movement and writeup by @mad_scientist_duffin - The prone shoulder press is a pretty basic movement but it can be used in a number of effective manners that I will describe below. You don’t need much, if any (particularly when you start) weight on the bar/stick. The key point here is actively working against gravity to pull the shoulder into max flexion without using spinal movement, and then perform movement resisting that vertical force vector. —— The most comm...on approach is to do this as movement prep work to enhance shoulder range of motion. With the retraction in the Y position it engages the lower trap shutting off the upper trap providing a small degree of improvement in shoulder flexion. I find this pretty minimal compared to our static RNT overhead squat or soft tissue approaches. Those and many more shown on our movement library - www.Kabuki.MS —— My favorite use is as an assessment to determine if you can achieve good shoulder positions when you need these demands. Such as on overhead pressing or barbell squatting day. This includes using it as an assessment pre and post shoulder work to determine if the work you did delivered a result. —— The final use would be post any session that may have tightened up your shoulder movement. Examples would be post pressing or back sessions. Used in this manner it can be great to load it up a bit more with weight or repetitions. It will really fire up the smaller muscle groups that come into play here with the larger groups being fatigued from the session. But the greatest benefit is using it as an assessment again.     Boomstick ❤️ #kabukistrength - #Repost @derekperdue8 ・・・ There is not a better tool for targeting the deep tissue to help release key trigger points in the pecs, shoulders, subscap, hamstring and more.
