Back in february, a military friend of mine told me about Joe's and that I should check it out. So me and a group of co-workers went to their karoke night. We really enjoyed! Outside of this a rude guy (who we were later told was a regular), we had fun. There was this really cool bartender sara that was awesome and really nice. The bar wasn’t super special but you could tell it had people that made it special.
Later the next week, I found out that they had more events on different days. My military friend that originally invited me went to their open mics every week and I literally got the chance to see him (as well as other artists) make joes a hot spot to go. So for the next few months, me and my friends were at Joes every Saturday just about. It got to the point where a lot of military and veteran friends were coming out just to see artists and have a good time drinking. But everything changed just a few weeks ago.
The Tuesday before thanksgiving, 2 of the more talented artists that perform at the open mics and bring in people every week were kicked out! One of the bar’s employees were saying RACIAL slurs to one of the artists and somehow the artists get kicked out. Later we find out that the one thrown out was the military friend who initially invited me the first time! Everyone knows him by Mike Sarge. We were all outraged and were sickened by the fact that Joe’s management was okay with this. No attempt to apologize or even talk to someone currently serving our country is disrespectful. Sarge alone brought so many military members and other artists to opens mics / karoke that it’s sad to see this bar completely disregard this incident. This bar went from being empty at night, to being packed during tueday/Thursday night bc of artists like Sarge, Haze, Mukka, King, and more.. People want to see talent!
I get that I may sound bias bc I know a lot of the people who go to this bar, but wrong is still wrong! No one (especially military) should have to go through that… Especially when they bring the bar money every week. Sarge works harder to make that place enjoyable than most of the employees working there. He performs, works the sound, welcomes newcomers, cleans up at times..EVERYTHING. (He needs to get paid honestly)
I will NOT be returning to this bar and my co-workers have not been there ever since. I hope that word has spread how Sarge (along with other artists) are being treated. It is good to hear that the artists are backing up Sarge bc at the end of the day its been proven that the bar doesn’t care about the ppl coming to their bar. They care about themselves. If someone can be kicked out for being disrespected and called out of their name, they should not be returning to Joe’s underground. By itself, the bar isn’t what keeps you there. It’s the people that do! Hopefully management will learn this.
It was just our group there, (weekday) but we had a lot of fun.
Wonderful place to have a drink. Prices are fair and it is non-smoking. They also have karoke nights.
It's a dive bar. One of the oldest in downtown Augusta. Inexpensive. Entertainment many nights. Worth a visit
Been here a few times. Service always sucks. Food is alright. I made the mistake of looking in the kitchen area. I will never order food there again. Make sure you use to bathroom elsewhere because the bathrooms here haven't been cleaned since the 60s.
Friendly staff and supportive crowd, but don't go for the late night food
This is a cool spot! There was a $5 cover on Friday night for a live hip hop group, jello shots at the door, cheap drinks and friendly staff/customers. Check this place out!
Awesome people! Great atmosphere. Never a bad experience at Joe's Underground!
Greatest place on the planet to me. Everyone is family and everyone is loved. Great food great prices.
