The director, Nicole Jones, will not address the bullying that goes on at Jefferson Academy. Two out of three of my granddaughters that attend this school have been bullied by the same boy. It has gone from verbal to physical. The director has said since the beginning of the year that she is investigating it, yet nothing has been done to stop it!
Academically this school is one of the best but the emotional affects of bullying deter from anything the student's learn and create a hostile environment!
Jefferson Academy has a bullying problem that is not handled at all! They turn their backs on these students that are being hurt and belittled by other students. School is supposed to be a safe environment for our children and the adults at Jefferson have a responsibility to make sure EVERY child that steps through their doors feel safe. When a child reports that they are having issues with another student physically and verbally bullying them, something needs to be done immediately. A child should not come home crying on a daily basis because no one is there to protect them! The principal is slow to respond to calls or emails IF she even responds.
I have just wanted to share that my kids and I have waded through a family crisis this year and I am speechless at the extra special care and love my children have recieved here. I really believe the only reason my children are succeeding in school right now despite all that is going on in our home is because of the loving dedication and hardwork of the teachers and staff at school caring for us. ❤ They are amazing! I can't imagine having been anywhere else during this time and wish every child could feel loved at a good school like mine do here. They all deserve it! If you are wondering where your kids would feel challenged and know their teachers deeply care about them, then I personally can't recommend this school and the teachers and staff highly enough.
Have had two girls in this school for the last five years. We love Jefferson Academy and Nicole Jones who is the principle is doing a great job! The school has always worked with us on anything my daughters have needed. We love the curriculum that gets taught and the individual testing. My girls are doing math a year ahead and are years ahead on their reading! Thanks JA
This school is fantastic. I have been working here for 5 years and absolutely love the school's environment. Honestly, my commute here is super long and I have thought about working at a closer school, but I will brave the commute to work here! The director is incredibly positive and organized, providing us with all the resources we need. I am constantly impressed how she really talks and connects with students. The other teachers are so creative and supportive, providing safe and caring classroom communities. The students are enthusiastic and well cared for. If I had children, I would choose to send them to this school!
We moved my oldest son to JA in hopes of receiving an unbiased education. The first year we started, his 2nd grade teacher only taught for 3 months before leaving for the rest of year to have her baby. The classroom resulted in sub after sub after sub. The students suffered that year with lack of continuity. His 3rd and 4th grade years went by quite smoothly, but we have again ran into issues this year with the 5th grade teachers. They are extremly hands off with the students and assignment turn in procedures. They do not want to enable the children and in turn let them fail because of missing assignments. I have never met a group of ladies that have such disregard for guiding young minds. I am quite disgusted this year. The lack of communication from this group is outstandingly horrible. I have emailed my concerns to only not get a reply or to be told I am being unreasonable. I don't know what happened this year, but it is definately a bad year and it will be a long year. I am considering pulling my son and moving him to a different school. One that will teach and guide without putting children and their parents down. If he stays, he will finish the year out dispite the horrible leadership of his teachers, not because of them. And that is heartbreaking because I really thought this was going to be a good fit. But JA's values no longer match my families or how we treat each other.
Its was no fun with the teachers my son said
RIP Mr Langoise
I went there and loved it the only problem I had with it was it had frequent lock down drills
We love Jefferson Academy. The leveled Math & Reading and the History emphasis were some of the biggest reasons why we chose JA and those areas have been everything we hoped it would be and more! My children's teachers are incredible and my kids are thriving. The atmosphere is positive and kind. All the staff, teachers and students seem to be bringing their best. We are thankful for the Patriotism taught even beyond the children saying the Pledge of Allegiance every morning. We would refer Jefferson Academy to anyone and be confident that their family would be happy here. Jefferson Academy has helped our son fall in love with learning again and for that, we will forever be grateful.
Starting daughter #3 there 2015-2016. Great teachers, great communication, great curriculum. The only problem I see is that for some reason the city or school district does not see the need to make the roads leading to the school a school zone. Safety of our children should be the top priority.
We love JA! It has been a great fit for our kids. We have been there for the past three years. During that time we have seen some faculty changes and school structure changes, but have been happy with where the school has continued to head. Mrs. Jones ,the current director, is wonderful and has a great vision for our school. To me it gets better and better, constantly improving and providing my children with their needs. I have two boys and a girl. My middle son is exceptionally bright and his teachers have gone the extra mile to continue to challenge him. Our biggest draw for the school is the leveled math. I love that my boys can continually be challenged and not have to stick to grade level math. WE (my kids and myself and my husband) have been so happy here.
Nicole Jones is very passionate about education and has done a lot to improve the school and keep things running smoothly. Ever since she has been there she has gone the extra mile in every way to serve the students and staff at Jefferson Academy. Sometimes she has been faced with some tough situations, but she has always come through for JA. She works as a team with faculty and staff and is very fair and passionate about what she does. The teachers here have also been through many changes over the years, but have stuck with it and truly care about their students, and what they do. Jefferson Academy has a lot of great opportunities for students, and I loved my experience with this school.
