Good selection of camping and hiking gear. Friendly and knowledgeable employees. Somewhat pricey, but overall a great place.
Great place. Very helpful staff. I've bought various things here always with a great experience.
Small store but they usually have most things for outdoors. I usually buy Mountain Hardwear gear here and have never been disappointed with it. My poles bent under the weight of snow in a blizzard in Colorado in the backcountry. They sent me a new tent. It does seem like the clothing selection has increased while the hiking/camping has decreased in floor space. There used to be several options in tents but not as much now. Most backpacks are day packs or small trip packs. Not many options for a pack capable of 10 days in Montana. Map selection is limited. Mostly just for the Gorge and National Geographic ones. Wished there was more wool products, instead of synthetics. That being said it will handle most people's needs. It's a very good store, and about the only one around. However.if you need maps, it's probably best to shop online. 4 season gear for serious backcountry pursuits are somewhat lacking.
I frequently shop at this store! As an outdoor oriented and frequent camping/hiking enthusiast at the RRG it’s nice to have a locally owned business in which the employees actually share the same hobbies and know the equipment. Been a customer since 2001 at least and the remodel is great!
This place is one of the only true outdoor stores in Lexington. I use it often to take care of my hiking, backpacking and kayaking needs. Bought a rack system for my vehicle here, hiking boots, camping supplies. This store will meet any of your outdoor needs and if they don't have a product that you want, the staff are more than happy to find it and order it for you. The staff are always super attentive and friendly. And if you're a regular, you get invites to cool events that they put on such as beer and gear nights. This place is awesome and a true local gem worth giving your business to.
Great store. Helpful staff. Good selection of hiking shoes/boots.
Incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. They really know their stuff and are locally owned. They have great events that are almost all free. If they aren't free it is because they are helping a local group or conservancy. Will you pay a little more? Maybe. Can you trusty them? 100%
As a new hiker, I needed ALL the gear and the crew at J & H was always totally helpful. And I don't mean once or twice. I have been there a LOT and all my experiences were positive. Thank you everyone at J & H!
I was so pleased with the courteous and helpful staff. Jordan in the shoe department brought out box after box until I found one that was just right. He never made me feel rushed and was very knowledgeable about the different features of each shoe. I will come back to buy my next pair!
Really friendly and helpful staff. Wide selection of outdoor gear, clothing, and accessories. From hiking, climbing, and camping equipment, all the way to life jackets for your dog, they probably have what you need to go outdoors.
Good store. Will always go here first before any other store or the internet. 4 stars because the remodel confused me and i don't think any of the employees wear uniforms of any sort (though I could be wrong.) but they were all friendly and helpful.
I'm going on my first backpacking trip soon and needed to find a good, dependable, cost efficient pack for my trip. The guy in the pack section was super helpful in explaining features to me and recommended a great product. He measured me and gave me the run down on all the compartments. Super grateful and will definitely be shopping there again!
The employees are friendly and helpful. They helped my dad and I get started with climbing gear and suggested great beginner shoes and harnesses. Their prices are the same as Amazon for most items as well which makes things inexpensive.
Great place locally owned. Very knowledgeable staff. Bout a pair of hiking boots and a hammock. And learned a lot about both while there.
I love J&H! They're super friendly and have all of the best brands at of course the nest price! I enjoy that they support where I'm from the Red River Gorge! If you're looking for outdoor gear to hike or camp in the RRG or anywhere for that matter J&H is the place to find it! #hikingrrg
Super helpful staff. If you need something they can order it. Lots of unique and helpful items. I wish the prices were more competitive with online though
I come here for the set up. If you need shoes, hammocks, packs or sleeping bags, they've got you. Sickest selection of Patagonia hats and clothing I've seen around. Really nice and friendly people run this place and I love going in every time.
J&H is hands down the best outdoors store in Lexington. Smart friendly staff ready to help. Backpack selection and fitting, awesome shoes n' boots, books, maps and kayaks! Have been going to them for outdoor products for over 10 years and have never been disappointed!
I've shopped there for years and fell in love with the quality of the products. I don't think anything I've bought has ever worn out. The staff is consistently engaging, knowledgeable and genuine. Just the right touch.
The thoughtful way they interact with the community is also appreciated. A woman who lost her husband to cancer had a community book 'box' taken and they jumped in with a reward immediately. Everything worked out, but it's just another example of a great local biz. Great products + great people!
