Very nice place to go. The views from the dunes are beautiful, and the nature center is also very well put together. The three dune challenge is fun to participate in, and an excellent way to see the best parts of the park (just make sure you are fit enough for the challenge). Although the dunes area is beautiful, don't neglect the other areas of the park. There is a wetland area that is worth checking out.

When you make it to Indiana Dunes, it’s hard to believe you’re still in Indiana! The color of Lake Michigan is beautiful and the sand is so relaxing and nice to stick your feet in!
The campground can fill up pretty quickly depending on the time of the month and season!response / report this review -

Beautiful! Love coming here. Well worth the money to enjoy all the varieties of nature. There is something for everyone to enjoy. They have trails of differing skill level featuring sandy dunes, woods, paved walking trails, and of course the stunning beach!

Of course it was raining. The most expensive spot on our trip. $12. To get in the gate. $26. For one night. Didn't like our spot. Right next to the main road. Fire pit was 10' from this road. Was here before and had a great spot. A nice park with access to Lake Michigan though.

Pros: with an america the beautiful pass camping was only $9/night. Large campground, handfull of walk in tent sites. Full bathrooms and showers. Camper kitchen sink. Dog friendly. Helpful and friendly camp host. Easy to use self registration kiosk.
Cons: filled up quick, got the last walk-in site at 6pm. Walk in sites- not much privacy (though drive in seemed to be more so).response / report this review -

This is a truly beautiful area to be in. The beach was clean and large with a great view of the Chicago skyline. We stayed at the campground also and it was perfectly peaceful. The spaces were roomy and large with lots of mature trees. The grounds were clean. I can't wait to go back. And it's only a little over an hour away from my house- great for a weekend escape!

Nice place. I attempted the 3 Dune Challenge, but the sand got the better of me. I haven't been on a dune in probably 30 years; didn't know what i was getting into. Being an older, over weight guy that likes his trails, even hills & stairs, i thought i could do it. For me, every step up was a 1/2 step back down.
After taking the shortcut back, feeling defeated, i went down to the beach. View of the Chicago Skyline was great and winds felt great. Toes in the sand, surf washing over my feet, it was a good day.response / report this review -

Great place to visit. I recommend getting their early as the line to get in was super long as we left. Could have been a Labor Day crowd, but parking was pretty limited to begin with. The Nature Center was nice but we had to circle around a few times before finally finding a shooter house to park at.

The park is awesome. We can swim there under the watch of life guards. Beach is clean. Water is not salty. They have changing rooms and restrooms, but a little messy. Got good car parking. The area is easily accessible. Good restaurants are within 5 miles radius.

My favorite place to hike in the area. Good beach front, wish people would respect it more and not litter. Staff tries their best to keep it clean with a daily walk through.

Indiana Dunes State Park.
Stayed an entire summer 1967
Awesome experience
46 yrs ltr, a revisit, sort of.
only 6.18 a night wrks out to 180 mth..
bought a tent.. camping for the summer
or until i save enough to buy another car
that might take all summer

Great place for camping with several camping grounds. All the facilities are amazing. Nice place to take a stop for camping and roam around in the state park. The lakefront is amazing at this place. The dunes here are formed during the storms forming an excellent view. Great place.

It was a nice place to camp, they had very clean facilities and good campsites with perfect trees for a hammock. The park volunteers and rangers were kind too. There is something therapeutic about the lakefront. It was great to walk the water's edge and have sand in my toes. Our trip was impromptu and short, but I will definitely go back.

I came here this past weekend with our Troop for a short stay. We are from Cincinnati, OH area, so the drive was 4 hours; but the stay was magnificent. This place will be on the list for more camp outs throughout the next few years.
The area is very cool with the sand dunes and the marsh area, and the ability to walk through the areas added to the coolness factor. We did the 3 dune challenge, and I will say - it was a big challenge. But well worth the effort, the views from the top of the three highest dunes were great.
We stayed in one of the youth camp grounds, and that was very nice. The site itself was huge, we could have easily fit our entire troop (60 boys) plus parents in our site. Though I think there is a restriction on the number of people you can have at each site. All the paths were in walking distance of our camp site, so no driving once we got set up.
We will be back as a troop and as a family. The family camp sites looked big, and well maintained.
