The International Association of School Librarianship (IASL) is an international non-profit 501(3)c organization that tried to be influential in the establishment and development of school libraries in every country in the world. Its mission is to provide an international forum for people interested in promoting effective school library programs as viable instruments in the educational process. IASL also provides guidance and advice for the development of school library programs and the school library profession.
One of its objectives is to initiate and coordinate activities, conferences and other projects in the field of school librarianship and information services. Since 1972 IASL has held an annual conference in different locations throughout the world.
IASLConf2017logoFor 2017 IASL chose to celebrate its 46th Annual International Conference and 19th International Forum on Research in School Librarianship at the California State University Long Beach campus. With its Southern California location near the Pacific Ocean and Mexico, the conference planners selected the theme “Learning Without Borders” to emphasize the fact that school library programs transcend a facility’s four walls, transcend physical resources, transcend its immediate school community, and transcend formal education to provide high-quality resources and services for lifelong learning.
The University, College of Education, Educational Technology and Media Leadership program, and Teacher Librarian program will be coordinating efforts to host the conference under the guidance of Dr. Lesley Farmer. The California School Library Foundation (CSLF), The California School Library Association (CSLA), Long Beach School Librarian Association (LBSLA), Los Angeles School Librarian Association (LASLA), and CUE are helping plan and sponsor this important event.
