Travis did an excellent job taking care of our party of six. He was friendly and make great recommendations, especially the dirty biscuit and sweet potato waffle! We will probably go back even though we are only here 5 days.

This was the only repeat restaurant that we ate at on our 3 day exploration of Charleston. We had such delicious meals the first time, and several more menu items that we wished to try, that we knew we had to return. Between the two of us, we tried the shrimp and grits, the bread pudding French toast, the fried pork belly grit bowl, the buckwheat pancakes with peach syrup, and the fried green tomatoes. Every item came in a satisfying portion and was made from high quality ingredients. My dad says that these were hands down some of the best shrimp and grits he’s ever had, and he has tried many throughout the Southern US. The service was pleasant and prompt for two midweek breakfasts. We were delighted with our overall experience at Hominy Grill.

This place is about on par with Cracker Barrel.
I ordered the Charleston Nasty Biscuit and I was extremely disappointed. I could make a better chicken and biscuit with store-bought mixes and fried chicken.
Service isn't anything to write home about, my glass was empty most of the meal and the food takes a while to come out. The paper on the tables gets soaked from soaking up all the sweat from the glasses.
I can't believe this place gets all these good reviews. What a let down. Everyone at my table was disappointed.response / report this review -

The food was very good and the waitress was also very nice. I like that you can get a coffee while you wait outside. The only reason it gets four stars is that I ordered a cocktail that could have used some work.

Amazing. Wonderful service with great recommendations. Be aware that the cinnamon pancake is just one pancake. Very tasty. We had one order of each: cinnamon pancake, nasty chicken biscuit, and fried green tomatoes. Also had the brunch punch and new old fashioned. Will be going back for sure

Low country favorites. Charming atmosphere. Fresh, high quality ingredients. Beat the Saturday brunch crowd and plan on arriving at 930a. By 10a, the line is out the door! Dinner reservations only!

Food great, service friendly. Get what you want, it's all good, heavy, Southern food. We had shrimp n' grits, chicken liver, nasty biscuit, ribs and chicken with mac and it was all good stuff.

Come for the Charleston Nasty Biscuit, stay for the Southern diner charm. You can tell this place is beloved by both tourists and locals alike, simply from the line which can easily stretch out the door, especially on Sunday mornings. Yet every time I've been here I've had nothing but the most spectacular service and down home and hearty great food. It's on my list of places I absolutely must eat every time I'm in Charleston.

Awesome place for breakfast in Charleston! We did have to wait around 20 minutes but I can understand, the place is very popular. Service was quick and very friendly. Once we placed our orders the drinks and food were brought out very quickly. The food was excellent. I tried an item off the brunch specials (duck sausage sandwich on pretzel roll) and I definitely recommend it to anyone looking to try something different. I will go back!

This restaurant was recommended to us by a bellhop at our hotel and boy did he steer us in the right direction.
Turns out this restaurant is a local legend. Waits are usually quite long but we managed to get in without too long a wait.
The service is fast but our server was super friendly.
Pro tip. The thick cut bacon I had is some of the best bacon I've ever tried.
Hands down this place is both delicious and not too expensive. It's an institution in Charleston and you can't go wrong with a visit. Just get there early or anticipate a wait. That said, it's totally worth it!response / report this review -

Hominy grill serves top notch southern food with excellent service to boot! The place can get very busy, so consider going at off-peak hours. Their she-crab soup is excellent, with lots of pieces of crab mixed in. The fried chicken is crispy, tender, and juicy - not sure I've ever had better! The shrimp and grits, however, are THE standout. The shrimp are soft and sweet with some bacon, and even as someone who doesn't love grits, I miss admit I enjoy them. The Chicken Country Captain is also FABULOUS, with a flavorful red curry sauce that is not spicy (but could easily appeal to spice lovers and haters alike). Pieces of almond add crunch in contrast with the tender chicken, enhancing the experience. All in all - you must come here on any visit to Charleston, it certainly stands up to the hype.

YUM! This is a must if you are visiting Charleston. As others noted, the prices are approximately $20 a plate for the "Charleston Classics," however this is not high for the area - you are in a tourist area and should expect to pay a little more for good food. We thought the portions were great we were full without being miserable and were satisfied with what we ate. Now onto the desserts.. DOUBLE YUM! Our waitress suggested the chocolate pudding; we never would have considered trying pudding at a restaurant but she sold us on it and we are so happy she did. This pudding is LEGIT! We also tried the buttermilk pie, which was also very tasty!

The food is amazing! My family has eaten here every time we come into town for the past 8 years. Sadly, the staff is extraordinarily rude, without fail, for every visit. And they don't offer a lot of gluten free options (including getting rid of their gluten free pancakes, which by the way, are very easy to make, most other places serve them). The food is good enough to make up for their awful service at least.

This is based on a to go order. The service was amazing all of the staff was very nice that I encountered. I ordered hush puppies and felt that they were tasteless and to fried for my liking. I ordered the Nasty Biscuit and still wasn't impressed as it was basically flavorless. And I also had the shrimp and grits which were awesome and bold flavored. To finish it up I got pecan pie and it was one of the best I had along with the best coffee I've ever had.

Had dinner. Service friendly. Biscuits great. Boiled peanuts not my thing. In and out fast. Family dining & casual. However went back next morning and breakfast was great! Love their homemade jams and Biscuits. I was really surprised and loved the ginger pumpkin bread. They know how to poach eggs too!
