  I guess they aren’t open for dinner anymore? Have tried to go on more than one ocassion and they were closed. Strange. Anyway had breakfast here and while it was ok I think it was way overpriced. Our server also seemed completley overwhelmed and service left something to be desired. I suspect they were very understaffed.

  Clearly under-staffed here at Hicks & McCarthy, at least today, November 10, 2017. Took a long time to get a table. Floor is dirty from previous table occupants (2-young kids and a stressed mom). I can here other tables voice courteous complaints about wait times for food, checks. Not the Hicks & McCarthy that I grew up with in the 1970's, when it was an appealing soda fountain / burger joint. -Chris Wilmot, Pittsford, NY

  I have had similar experiences where the service was terrible. Came in with a group of 10 and they took forever to take our orders, and even longer for the food. Other groups who arrived after us, came in, ate and left, while we still were waiting for food. We addressed the issue with management and was treated like we should just deal with it. Will never return.

  Went here for High Tea with a friend yesterday. We were here a few years ago and enjoyed it so decided it was time to go again. Boy, has their place, service and quality of the High Tea food gone down hill! First the bathroom was filthy with dried urine around the bolts at the base, dust on the hand drier, ... path on the rug was as black as the asphalt on the road leading from the bathroom into the tea room. The tea was barely warm, the silver was tarnished and rusted, the bread on the sandwiches was stale and the cream cheese and eggs were barely scrapped on the bread. Had to ask twice for water. For $25 each for just tea and sandwiches, tarts and scones, and a 22% gratuity automatically added to our bill, we should have gotten the royal treatment in service. Maybe they figured they wouldn't have even gotten 15% tip. The service was okay if i was just there getting lunch or breakfast, not High Tea. Waitress' attire was also lacking for someone who was serving High Tea. If Hicks & McCarthy no longer have the desire or business coming in for High Tea any longer, they should just no longer offer it instead of making a poor attempt at this service.

  The breakfast foods were tremendous, and the wait staff was friendly - when they dropped by. There were long gaps between attention, unfortunately. Too many times I found myself wishing I could have more coffee or water with no one to be found.

  Beautiful restaurant with several dining rooms, making it unique. The service staff were friendly. Unfortunately the food was a mixed bag. The steak was quite good but the pasta sauce was one heavy, heartburn-creating mess, over-seasoned and too acid, salty. The appetizers were on the pricey side but that's not unusual for many restaurants.

  This was not my first visit but will definitely will be my last. Went for Fathers Day brunch. Service was severely lacking from start to finish. Had to ask multiple times for more menus for everyone in our party of 8 as we only had 2. It took over an hour for everyone to get their food. It was served in sections. 2-3 meals served at a time with 10 minutes between when the next meals were served to our party. One meal wasn't cooked to specifications: a medium rare burger was served well done. Our waitress couldn't keep up with our water classes. And then we were told the restaurant ran out of orange juice. One of our party never received a refill on his water at all.
  I'm very disappointed as the quality of this restaurant has gone down quite a bit. It seems like they just don't care much about service.

  Went for breakfast on 5/13. The waitress was very nice but clearly stressed due to a lack of staff support. I asked for eggs made with no dairy since I'm lactose intolerant. They said no problem. However, about half hour after eating I had terrible cramping and diarrhea. I assumed it was because they used dairy when preparing my eggs.
  My daughter ordered fried eggs and French toast and had the same reaction about a half hour later. There was some contamination or there was spoiled food they are serving and that's not cool!!! Clean up your act!!

  Fair price for a decent eat on the go menu. Staff is always friendly and professional. One small draw back is they are cash only. But there is a ATM in the establishment.

  If I could rate it lower than 1 star I would. The worst service I've ever experience in my life. Very rude employees. We left before even being served as we were not attended to and waited for an hour for soup and salads when the restaurant was not even busy.

  One of my favorite restaurants in the Rochester area. Literally have never had a bad experience there in the 10 years I have been going.

  We wanted something different from the burger and pint thing. My wife and I had salads, mine the salmon with a raspberry vinaigrette and my One had a Erie wedge, fresh and generous portion. Good coffee as well. Relaxing atmosphere after working a busy few days.

  Hicks and McCarthy used to be AMAZING!!! NOT ANYMORE! Disgusting. The food used to be high end, the atmosphere was relaxed and beautiful, now I have no idea what they are going for. It's a mesh of soda shop, diner and what used to be. The food is full of grease. Gross, gross, gross!!! So sad how bad it's gotten.
