Our 1800 family farm strives to be good stewards of our animals and gardens. We recognize the quickly fading sustaining arts of the farm and home of the past and are at work to preserve it. In a day of manufactured livestock, genetically modified produce and an ever increasing busy stressed culture, we step back to a simpler more self-sustaining time.
We raise endangered HERITAGE breed farm animals. These breeds were raised in the past before industrial agriculture. Just in the last 15 years 190 breed of farm animals have gone extinct and 1500 others are currently at risk. That means genetic diversity and adaptability to sustain is drastically decreasing.
Our farm grown food has variety, taste and nutrition. They are not limited to the grocery store with the same limited variety from the food industry. We grow HEIRLOOM vegetable’s and organic fruit. Heirloom seeds are the seeds your great grandparents would have passed down for generations before the hybrid industry created the seeds that cannot be saved. Our food has become limited and controlled. We carefully choose and continue to learn about what seeds grow best here in the North East. As the world’s food crops continues to erode resulting in the lost biodiversity. We are choosing to not depend on them. Did you know that 90% of GMO (genetically modified) seeds in our county is owned by just ONE company? That limits your choices, nutritional value and most concerning increases the plants and human vulnerability to disease.
Heritage Haven is passing along our farming heritage to the next generation. From our Sheep to Yarn, Goats to Cheese, Rabbits to Wool, Pigs to Bacon, Chickens to Eggs, Seed to Harvest our farm is preserving the arts of the home and farm.
