Great spot for seafood fare! They also do offer a few items like burgers, steaks, salads, etc. Gluten free options are also a staple of the menu.
The service and food are excellent, top to bottom. They are part of a multi-restaurant group, with a decent rewards program.
The only thing keeping this from a 5 star review are the incidentals. First, the location itself is across from the courthouse, where free parking is basically extinct. The alternative used by most is a $6 valet service that requires validation and a short walk through a hotel lobby. Second, the place is a little cramped and usually busy, so expect to wait for seating, half-shout conversations, and just be very close to other diners.response / report this review -

Came here randomly for lunch as my boyfriend and I were coming up from Mystic and I was awestruck by the food and the service. It was beyond phenomenal! The server was so attentive and made great suggestions as to what to partake. We ate a variety of oysters, clam chowder, the Rhode island calamari (yum), seafood risotto, and my boyfriend devoured the king crab legs, all with a nice bottle of white wine in a pretty and well lit restaurant. They sat us by the side where the glass to ceiling windows offered quite a view of providence. I highly recommend this place!

Upmarket seafood restaurant in the heart of Providence. Excellent quality produce. Welcoming, friendly, & professional staff. Above average prices. Highly recommended.

The lobster and crab cakes were to die for. They were the best crab cakes I have ever had. I had the fish tacos and my boyfriend had the chicken gyro and both were amazing. The zucchini fries were also delish and light. The oysters come with two different sauces and are wonderfully fresh. We went for lunch and the prices were appropriate for the quality of the food. The service was wonderful as well. Our server Alana? was very attentive. I was happy that we included this in our short trip to RI.

Relatively brief visit for late night dessert in the bar area, thus the four stars for now. Service was prompt and appropriately reserved. Overall ambiance was elegant but not rigidly so. Excellent central location.

We we're in town to visit RISD so I thought I would take my daughter for some fresh local seafood. I don't think anything we ate was either. The clams casino appetizer was basically some overcooked rubbery clams drowning in breadcrumbs. She ordered the stuffed lobster special and it too was basically overcooked seafood drowning in breadcrumbs. I'm not sure how but they took the real flavor out of the seafood. My scallop dish was good. There were also several fruit flies that kept bothering us while trying to eat. One landed in my wine. I very nicely told the waitress who said she would inform the Manager. I never heard another word about it again from anyone. I would hope for dropping $120 on dinner (for 2 people) that I might at least get an apology or free glass of wine. Overall I was disappointed in the meal. Perhaps we had an unusual experience.

My sister and I dined here last night for our birthdays, which are in close proximity! The food was great and the atmosphere is always amazing but what really made our night was our server, Theresa! I have been working in F & B operations for over 10 years and have never had such service as to which we received last night! She was text book phenomenal! Our night was made so special by her amazing attention to detail, knowledge of the menu, and stellar recommendations! I've always had a great experience at this restaurant but I would rate last night as the best service I've ever had! If you read this, request her when making a reservation! If you are part of upper management or ownership, you have a gem in Theresa, I can't rave enough about what a special evening my sister and I had!!!

The food was amazing, i tend to order one of the dishes that a restaurant has as a special, and they fulfilled my expectations of what i had seen online. Everything they did was with a high level of standards and service, and the food.the halibut was was pan seared to perfection with only a hint of spicesso as to not overwhelm the delectable taste of the fish on its own. Light and with a hint of its own buttery flavor, the parsley puree that it sat on was full of flavor but also light on your palate, and a small amount of pesto atop the succulent halibut to add yet another layer if delicious flavor to be tantalizing to your taste buds. The only thing I wish would have been different was that the head chef who is the creative genius behind what they serve, was off for the night. It's a shame because I would have liked to thank him personally for the meal that I definitely enjoyed.

Just had an outstanding lunch at Hemenway's. The service is 5 stars - formal, but very pleasant and friendly at the same time. The location is great; it's always nice taking a walk along the river after a meal here. I've always loved the interior of the space, since coming here as a kid to pick up fish from the retail section. It's the best place for a business lunch, but even if you're just here casually, it has an atmosphere of importance and success.
Now, regarding the food: I had the fish tacos today, and they were delicious. Fresh, light, crispy cod, lots of guacamole, fresh cilantro and pickled vegetable slaw. I would order them again in a heartbeat!

Solid American food. Seafood and steak and everything in between. Enjoyed Cod sauteed on quinoa, friend had the salad. Everything was cooked well, though underseasoned to my preference.

It was loud. So loud you cannot hear if someone is speaking to you. Had the lemon sole. Had too much Tumeric and too Many wild grains in the rice. The service was slow at the bar and the bartenders need to be trained to stop using their cell phones at the busiest time of the evening. This restaurant was recommended by the hotel. The food and the menu is common just like any other seafood restaurant any where on the east coast. Nothing special.

The only thing better than the food is the service. Everytime I come here, I feel like i gain a friend. Seriously The clams casino is the best I ever had (don't tell my mom). And the Clam chowder is also one of the best (don't tell my grandmother)

Been here several times and always a fine meal. Only reason I give 4 stars this time is the service and noise. It was so crowded and loud that it took away from the experience this time. Service was also lacking as our server was simply overwhelmed. Food was excellent. The lobster paella was great, and we also shared a rib eye steak in a wine sauce that was out of this world!!! Will be back soon, but probably not in a Friday night. Highly recommend this restaurant!
