West Traverse Township is a civil township of Emmet County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,448 at the 2000 census.CommunitiesHarbor Point is an unincorporated community in a noncontiguous part of the township on a peninsula south of Harbor Springs at. The historic Little Traverse Lighthouse is located at the tip of the Harbor Point peninsula. It was begun as a resort originally called Lansing Resort in 1878.GeographyAccording to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 13.4sqmi, of which 13.3sqmi is land and 0.04sqmi (0.22%) is water. The city of Harbor Springs is located south of the township.
